Trained night Feeder... interesting article

I found this article online when looking for help with my son who has been waking up 3-4 times a night and won't go to sleep without a bottle (but isn't always hungry). He is definitely a trained night feeder. We found this article to be very helpful and it has already started to work. Just thought i'd pass it along to whomever was interested. Chat Icon

Thats a great article thanks! The only thing that concerns me is Tyler always has a saturated diaper when he wakes for the middle of the night bottle and I always change him. Should I not? Also he would never make a 9 to 10 pm feeding.

Well you don't have to wake him up per say. You can dreamfeed if he lets you. Chat Icon

Also Jacen has a wet diaper sometimes, but i don't always change him. The way i see it... he used to sleep through the night so when he did that... his diaper was just as wet and he did fine. Chat Icon

That was a really good article! Thanks for posting it.
I found it interesting that it says that formula fed babies at 4 months should only have 4 bottles a day. Every place else I read said that they should have at least 5 until after 6 months.
Oh and good luck getting your little guy to sleep through the night again!

I'd settle for getting up once a night!!!! Chat Icon

*I guess it all depends on how many ounces the baby drinks. Every baby is different, you know. Chat Icon Plus this is according to an eating schedule of every 4 hours.

Re: Trained night Feeder... interesting article

Thanks so much for this article!

DD has been waking consistently for the past two weeks during the night (she just turned 3 months). She used to sleep through the night...

I have tried to lengthen the time between feedings during the day as per my doctor's suggestion - it has been torture - she screams her head off. But I have been able to stretch them out 3 hours apart - she was a snack feeder as my doctor called it...eat half a bottle, then want the rest an hour later. He said bad idea. She's learning to drink more at each feeding now.

I have started doing the dreamfeed (around 11 pm) - I am able to get her to take about 3 oz. She woke 2 nights ago at 3am for another feeding, then last night at 5 am (I can handle 5am).

Her problem is she stirs loudly (crying) starting from 2am every 30 minutes or so...I think she doesn't know how to comfort herself back to sleep without her paci...

I don't know what to do about that one...

Either way, thanks again for the article and best of luck getting your little one to sleep - maybe we're up at the same time in the middle of the night - I will think of you!!

Our ped never had a problem with less bottles. As long as he had at least 24oz of formula.

If i think he just wants the pacifier, i run it and pop it in his mouth. Is she hungry or just waking out of habit/comfort? Meaning have you picked her up, not fed her and just rocked her? If she was calm and started falling asleep... you know she's not waking out of hunger. Chat Icon

Yup my son did the same. Was sleeping through the night at 2 1/2 months and then a few weeks later, stopped. Then he was getting up once a night and then it went to 3-4 times a night. Chat Icon It's been a month now and we just can't handle getting up that much each night. As my husband says... it's all for attention! Chat Icon
