Transitioning to 1 nap questions.....
it seems a few days a week Alyson will nap a little over 2 hours and will not do her 2nd nap. Fine. She's not really all that bad on 1 nap....it's me that needs it!
Does bedtime get earlier?
Does the nap start later in the AM (like instead of 10:30-12:30, it'll be 11 or 11:30-1:30???)
Does wake up time in the AM get affected???
She's been going to bed around 7pm and waking around 8am (even with 2 naps a day)

Re: Transitioning to 1 nap questions.....
Miranda's transition to one nap didn't really affect bedtime or wake up time.
She started off napping around 11 and now it's gotten to about 12:30 like clockwork as long as we're home. She usually naps until 3ish (although my mom somehow says its until 4 with her. I just think she doesn't hear her ). Bedtime is still 8-8:30 and she pretty much wakes up like clockwork at 7am. I didn't like it at first but once we adjusted and it was a 2-3 hour naps instead of 2 shorted ones I liked it a lot better. We can get out of the house in the morning and stay out until lunch which is great!! I can go to the gym, do grocery shopping, mall, whatever and not worry about timing it between two naps.

Re: Transitioning to 1 nap questions.....
This website helped me alot...
familysleep.com
Emma is having a hard time transitioning to 1 nap a day because she still really needs that morning nap. What I do now (and I have asked her daycare to do the same) is to let her nap for 1 hour in the morning - usually around 9:30 or 10:00 and then around 2:00 - 2:30 - which would be the longer of the naps - For DD it's usually 2 hours. The idea is to eventually lose the morning nap... and so when DD is ready I will make the morning nap at 11 - then 12 - then 1:00 - So that everntually she has 1 really long nap in the afternoon, without having a long stretch of wakefulness before bedtime.
If DD resists the afternoon nap - She goes to bed at 6:00pm...

Re: Transitioning to 1 nap questions.....
Jake's transition did not affect bedtime other than some days he HAD to go to bed a little earlier than his usual 7pm because he was a crank monster without that 2nd nap.
It DID affect his wakeup time though. He used to sleep from 7pm - 6am and after he dropped to 1 nap he sleeps until 7:00am without fail, sometimes til 8am - which happens to wreak havoc on my morning routine, and makes me almost late to work everyday, but oh well...ya don't hear me complaining on the weekends!
The transition itself was a little rough. He would take his morning nap for the usual 1.5 hr or so but would refuse the afternoon nap entirely. So sometimes he would be on 8 hrs w/ no nap!
So we slowly pushed back the morning nap until it became an afternoon nap (12:30pm) and now it lasts 2 -2.5 sometimes 3 hrs.

Re: Transitioning to 1 nap questions.....
Jcob's transition was pretty easy... He naps anywhere from 12:45-1 ish until 3:45 ish..
I had to start pushing the nap so I would make sure I was eating lunch by 11:45..
his bedtime and wakeup time were not affected either... He goes to sleep by 8:30 and wakes up at 7:00am..
Oh Yes, you should eat lunch before you put her down for the nap...

Re: Transitioning to 1 nap questions.....
Jacob lost the morning nap because ever since hes been sleeping thru the night he doesnt wake in the am till about 9. So he isnt ready for a nap until 12:30-1pm. And if i'm lucky i get an hour. sometimes an hour and a half. He still goes to bed at 8pm ish every night.

I do give her lunch before she goes down in the afternoon in the hopes that she will sleep a nice long time. It took about 6 weeks or so but getting to a 12:30 nap time has worked out really well for us.

Re: Transitioning to 1 nap questions.....
Carlie gets lunch and then she takes a 2 hour nap after that. Daycare transitioned her to 1 nap about 1 month ago. I am still putting her to bed at the same time.

I have always followed DD's lead... I found that she just naturally transitioned... and when she was having a problem, helped her with the times.. like only letting her sleep for 1 hour in the am... and making sure that her afternoon nap was a long one... and about 3 hours after her last nap. If she didn't have that afternoon nap, to make bedtime earlier (she didn't wake ealier in the am when making her bedtime earlier either - she normally wakes up at 7:00am).
As for making the morning nap later (and eventually an afternoon nap) - A good indicator to start moving the time later is when she starts to play in her crib... and not falling aslep right away. They say to give it an hour..
