Travel Clinic in NYC
There are a few from what I've seen online. Which one have you used and would you recommend them?
TIA!

Re: Travel Clinic in NYC
Not a clinic but my primary care doc is a travel physician as well. I've gotten shots and malaria meds from her. She's a super nice lady!
Dr. Michelle Li
So where are you traveling too??

Re: Travel Clinic in NYC
Thanks! :) We're going to Bangladesh in the fall...doing my research now on doctors and the meds I will need because I'd like to get them as soon as I can, this way if I get any adverse reactions, I won't have to deal with it on my trip. Don't want to get the shots too close to our trip!
We're probably going to stop in Istanbul on the way back for a couple of nights, too!

Before I went to china about 10 years ago I went to the travel clinic at LIJ - they have the protocol for what is needed for no matter where you are traveling. They were fine and I would use them again if I needed to. I would think that Columbia, Cornell or NYU would offer this as well.

Re: Travel Clinic in NYC
Haven't been there yet; DH grew up there as a child. He's been back a couple times since then, the most recent being 2007. I'm pretty excited, but have never been on a longhaul flight like that so I'm a little antsy about that. Will have to pack some books and keep myself a little buzzed, I imagine Never been to Istanbul either; it was one of my great-grandma's favorite cities and it just seems logical for us to stay a couple of nights since we're likely flying on Turkish Air and will have stopovers there anyway.
India! That's going to be an awesome trip. Where are you going? That's another place I'd love to see - one of these days, we will. Being CF certainly helps with vacation planning!
I wonder if anyone around here is going to Pakistan...speak up if you are!

Re: Travel Clinic in NYC
You'll be fine with the flight! We do long haul flights like that a couple of times a year. Bring books, noise canceling headphones, sleeping pills and take advantage of the free drinks It can be fun!
I would love to go the Bangladesh! Where abouts are you headed? I've never been to Turkey but my husband has and loved it!
We've been to India once before but this will be our first time doing the Northern india/Delhi/Agra/Varanasi thing! So excited although it's 6 months out at this point

Re: Travel Clinic in NYC
Thanks for the advice about the flight! :)
We're heading to Dhaka for the bulk of our trip (that's where he's from and where most of his extended family on his father's side lives) and will be doing a trip down to the Sundarbans (their rainforest) and definitely Cox's Bazaar!
Istanbul is just an add-on because we've found really great rates on Turkish Air for the trip, and since we'll be stopping there anyway, we figure why not take a couple of days to sightsee?
Ooooh northern India. That's going to be so amazing! Are you taking part in any yoga while you're there? (I've seen you post about it before + your avatar). Six months is not far at all...think about it, Thanksgiving and Christmas were about 6 months back and that seems like just yesterday!

Re: Travel Clinic in NYC
That's sounds fantastic! What an amazing experience to hang with DH's family and get to experience the real Bangladesh. Your DH must be thrilled to go back?
Make sure to have some Salwar Kameez's made! I swear..you won't wear anything else while there...so comfy, practical and gorgeous! You should also get a few sari's considering you'll have someone to help you wrap them properly I'm so jealous...All of my south asian friends families are here otherwise I'd be hitting up there fams for advice and food
We are doing a yoga retreat but in the south...it's the only place we'll splurge the whole trip...It's called Swaswara in Gokarna which is about 3 hours from Goa...Really looking forward to it.
When do you guys leave? We had some email correspondence today with our guest house in Delhi and it looks like our travel date will be November 18

Re: Travel Clinic in NYC
DH is really excited to go back to see his father's side of the family. I've met a few people who have come here to visit and they're all so nice. I wish they lived here - most of his mom's side of the family is here and they're just...weird.
I actually have an entire closet of salwar kameez that were made for me over there They are super comfortable! I sent my measurements over with his parents a few years back. I have some really casual ones and a few fancy jeweled ones. I only wore a sari once - at one of our wedding receptions (we had two: an American one and a Bengali one) and people were all surprised that I was dancing in it. I had the girl at the salon that morning put in a box of pins so that no one got a free show if the wrapping loosened up
I love south Asian food...DH and I are both vegetarians and there's just so much variety for us to chow down on. I wish I could recommend some restaurants in NYC but to be honest, we never go out for Bengali or Indian food since we get so much of it from his family.
Your vacation sounds amazing! DH and I just started getting in to yoga. I can't wait to hear about your trip, especially the yoga retreat :) November will be here before you know it.
As for us, we're going in October most likely - haven't nailed down specific dates yet, just looking at the airfares and will plan from there!

Re: Travel Clinic in NYC
Of course you have a bunch! Silly me! I'd love to see you're wedding pics! I bet you looked gorgeous
Oh! October should be nice! Warm and not rainy without the crowds of November/December.
If you ever feel like going for indian in the city I highly recommend Yuva on 58th and 2nd. Their Saag Paneer makes me cry with happiness. Not to mention the owners are super cool and friends of ours
The yoga retreat should be really fun. I'm really into it..the hubby not so much but it's on a gorgeous beach and they do serve wine... mmmm...Sula Sauvignon Blanc!
I've been checking airfares and it's been a bit pricier then expected. about 1800 round trip from NY! damn gas prices...I never think about it until I'm looking at plane travel. The perks of living in the city and not having a car
