Re: Traveling....
i dont think you should chance it - if you were to be early, you would end up in an unfamiliar hospital with a different dr. - JMO..

Re: Traveling....
I went to DC at 34 weeks, so it's the same drive. The drive was fine and we went with the intention of going to see a Nationals game and going to some museums during the day and monuments at night. Let me tell you, walking for more than 10 minutes @ 8 mos. pregnant=torture (for me anyhow). So, my advice is if you're going to relax then go (could be your last trip before baby), but sightseeing might be out of the question!

Re: Traveling....
I think you can go, they will tell you to stop a few times during the trip and walk around. Any sign of labor and start heading home. You should have plenty of time. Worst case scenario you have the baby in Md. Delaware or NJ. They do have modern medicine there. It's not like your going to costa rica.

Re: Traveling....
I traveled at 36 weeks last pregnancy and it's not something I'd recommend, but we also drove to Long Island which is about 7-8 hours depending on traffic. My OB let me go, but he wasn't happy about it...
4-5 hours isn't too bad, but do make sure you get out and walk (which they'll say at most every 2 hours.) I also kept my feet up on the dashboard, but once we made the trip, I had horrible problems with swelling.

Re: Traveling....
When I went for my third OB appt (first one with the DR) he told me no travelling after Thanksgiving. I think that puts me somewhere around 34-36 weeks.
ETA: If you are going to travel, they recommend getting up and stretching/walking every hour and drink lots of fluids
