Traveling Vegetarians
Thought this would be a good idea for a thread. Since when traveling it's kinda hard to find good stuff to eat-- I thought people could post places they have been and restaurants they have had a great veggie meal, or places that are veggie friendly.
I'll start-- but will continue to add. Too much to write at once!
*Jamaica* Couples Negril (and probably all of the Couples resorts) - Each restaurant here had a couple veggie options. During the day for lunch, I basically had salad bar, which was cool cause you are laying out and who wants to eat something rich. We didn't leave the resort to eat.
*New Orleans* - I highly recommend a veggie mulfeletta. You will probably need to ask for it without the meat, and someone may look at you like you are crazy-- but it's a yummy sandwich.
August- This was one of the best meals we have ever had. It is expensive, but they made me a special tasting menu not on the menu. I highly recommend.
*Aruba* Sole Mar- this is a great italian restuarant. The best meal we had in Aruba. We looked hard for restuarants that would accomodate and nothing was really good anywhere else.

Re: Traveling Vegetarians
*Los Angeles*
Real Food Daily - two locations, 100% vegan
Madeleine Bistro - a bit out of the way, but some of the best vegan food in LA.
Newsroom - Not 100% veggie, but a bunch of veggie/vegan options. Including seitan "chicken" wings - super spicy, super delicious. Also, possible celebrity sightings. GREAT brunch.
M Cafe de Chaya - Upscale order-at-the-counter place. Mostly vegan with a few fish dishes. Also, next door to PinkBerry (famous for their frozen yogurt).
Native Foods - 100% vegan hole in the wall near UCLA.
Scoops - Vegan (and regular) ice cream in delicious and unusual flavors.

*San Francisco*
Millenium - Pricy, but the best eating experience I've ever had. MilleniumRestaurant.com
Maggie Mudd - A vegan ice cream parlor? Say it ain't so! (They also have stuff for the dairy-eating crowd) MaggieMudd.com
Herbivore - My DH and I ate at herbivore every day we were in SF, either for brunch or dinner. Eveything was great. Herbivore-Restaurant.com

Re: Traveling Vegetarians
If any vegetarians make their way to Philly, there are a whole slew of amazing vegetarian restaurants.
My favs are Horizons (completely vegan, including desserts) and Vesuvios (Italian vegetarian - a rare find - and they have a vegetarian AND non-vegetarian menu so you can dine with your non-veggie friends )

Re: Traveling Vegetarians
great thread! I wish I had known this when I went to barcelona and ate french fries and cheese sandwiches for 9 days!
At Disney, it's pretty easy tog et vegetarian food. All sit down and most counter service have options and if you call ahead it's great. I called ahead to 1900 park fare and the chef walked me around to all of the vvegetarian options in the buffet and offred to make me ANYTHING I wanted.
other times the chef has come to the table to discuss vegetarian options!

Re: Traveling Vegetarians
*Barcelona*
Origen 99'9% - Okay, a bunch of vegetarian options, one or two vegan
Hello Sushi - When we were sick of sub par veggie food, we went for sushi. I had some veggie rolls (mixed veggie and cucumber), DH had some fishy ones. Everything was very good.
Vegetalia - A small storefront, hippie-esque with a little shop in the back. Lots of sandwiches made of seitan and tempeh. Everything we had was pretty good and, if I remember correctly, fairly priced.
Organic - Small menu, with lots of daily specials. All vegetarian, with vegan options. We had a very nice meal. There is a soup and salad bar and tasty looking deserts (which we did not sample).
Udon - This was our favorite find. It's a new-looking, modern japanese noodle house with communal tables. It's right near the Picasso museum, but according to their website they have more than one location in the city. Vegetarian options are clearly marked on the menu.
The Bagel Shop - Decent, but pricy, bagel shop off Las Ramblas. We went for breakfast there a lot, since there doesn't seem to be much in the way of vegan friendly in the city. Tons of options for bagel toppings, fresh squeezed juice. They charge extra to toast your bagel

Re: Traveling Vegetarians
Don't expect to get "vegetarian" food in Japan, very often that means it has chicken in it. They don't consider chicken to be meat as such.
Be careful while travelling in Asia about the phrase vegetarian.
