tree / shrub / plant by the entrance

I need suggestions for some growing thing near the steps to the front door

We want something that will provide character / landscape all year round

Do you have a gardener? The guys who do our lawn suggested the bushes for our landscaping - I wanted stuff that would look nice year-round yet wouldn't need much maintenance.

I have no idea what bushes we have, but they are working so far - they stay green all year but don't need a lot of attention. They don't grow really fast either so we don't have to worry about trimming them....

I love dwarf everygreen shrubs.

They don't grow fast and they don't lose their leaves/needles in the winter.
