Trick-or-treating question for moms of toddlers

If you are taking your toddler out tomorrow, are you actually going to collect candy?

We are planning on taking Jake to a few neighbor's and friends houses but that's it... but I think I would feel silly actually hold a bag out and having people put candy in it... Jake's not going to eat it...

Re: Trick-or-treating question for moms of toddlers

The thing is, people are going to want to give him a treat. You can make him hold a bag if he's old enough...but, you'll have to control what he actually gets to eat. When my son was that little, he wasn't really aware of what people were putting in his bag anyway.Chat Icon

Re: Trick-or-treating question for moms of toddlers

We are taking DS trick or treating tomorrow and he is 5 months. We are only taking him to the neighbors that know and have seen him. He won't be holding a bag but what my mom found was really cute. She found this small little plush pumpking bag. It's small and something he can hold in his little hand.

We are not going to hold his hand out with the little bag. If the neighbors give that is their choice but like I said we won't be sticking his hand out or anything.

We are going with some friends who have kids (ranging from 15 months -10 yrs). We will take him up to people's houses (probably not ALL of them) and he will be carrying a pumpkin (hasn't put it down for two days!). Then mommy and daddy will eat all the goodiesChat Icon Chat Icon

ETA: He is 14 months

We probably won't. I will dress her up so she's in costume when we answer the door. We go to a friend's Halloween party with a bunch of kids every Halloween so we'll be doing that in the evening.

Re: Trick-or-treating question for moms of toddlers

I usually hide a bag of pretzels or goldfish in my pocket and trade for the candy so the little ones can have a snack too.

With my son we let him pick his 5 favorite candies and then the rest gets left on the counter at night and then the "Halloween Witch" comes and trades him his candy for a present.Chat Icon

Re: Trick-or-treating question for moms of toddlers

We took Caiden last year and will be this year as well. We went around in our neighborhood. We didn't take him his first Halloween because he was only 9.5 months old but we did last year and he was 19 months. He LOVED it!!! At first he was shy but then after seeing what you do and what you get, he was running to houses after that! Chat Icon I can't wait to take him tomorrow either but now he's well over 2.5 yrs old. It depends on how old they are. I don't think I would of taken Caiden if he was only a year, but at 1.5 yrs I did. Believe me in only that 6 month time frame they change a lot and I think they're able to enjoy it more! Good luck! If you do go, don't feel guilty... have fun and take pictures!

No, we aren't going door to door, Julia has older cousins (4 & 2) who will be trick or treating, so we will go around with them, and she will be in her stroller watching.
My parents are having a big party on there block with all rides and stuff for the kids, so Julia can enjoy that.

Re: Trick-or-treating question for moms of toddlers

I am taking Jeremy (7 weeks) to my sisters for photos in his costume. My nephews are 7 and almost 4 so they are really excited to see the baby in costume. I can't justify trick or treating (Jeremy doen't need the candy and I am trying to lose weight!) so after the pictures we will come home to pass out candy to the neighbors kids. I will leave Jeremy in his costume so the neighbors can see him that way. I bought a HUGE bag of candy so I really want to be home to pass it out.

I'll take the twins to the neighbors just to show off their costumes, then we'll make the rounds to grandma's, and close friends houses. No actual trick or treating. (they're only 3 monthsd old)

I plan on taking him only to the few people we know. Last year we didn't take candy but this year I might....haven't decided. ALthough he doesn't eat much of candy (he eats some) I think he may get a kick out of collecting it in his pail.

We're going out with our neighbors. The lobster will stay in his stroller (Chat Icon ) and I'll help my neighbor with her 3 kids. I won't carry a bag for him or anything. I'll just steal from my neighbors kids Chat Icon

I'm not ringing bells. Katherine can't Trick or Treat and I don't need the candy!! I don't know too many of my neighbors either.

I will put her in her stroller and walk around the neighborhood and check out the costumes. I'll also be bringing her to her grandparents' houses.

If my DH weren't going to be coming home tomorrow, I was going to tag along with friends who have "trick or treat" aged kids.

We are going to be doing a LOT of driving to see all family members and friends I think I have to make a list tonight! Chat Icon She does have a small pumpkin, but it is just for the effect, because this mama doesn't need anymore candy in this house!

Re: Trick-or-treating question for moms of toddlers

yep, we took our dd around last year when she was 16 mths - it was cute to have all the neighbors see her all dressed up.

She didn't eat ANY of the candy because either it was a choking hazard or b/c of her food allergies, so DH and I ate it!Chat Icon

This year she'll at least be able to eat the candy she isn't allergic too.

I'm taking my 2-1/2 year old trick or treating! He is so excited, he's been walking around with his pumpkin pail saying "Happy Halloween. Trick or Treat."

Last year, he was only 18 months, so I dressed him up and we took a walk around the neighborhood, but did not ring bells.

We went around with our friends' kids that were older. I let them take candy & put it in the bag if the person at the door insisted. I wouldn't let them eat it. They were more excited about the oohs & aahs than anything else.

Re: Trick-or-treating question for moms of toddlers

We have 2 close family members that live within walking distance of our house -- so I want to go to their houses and maybe a few houses on the way...if they offer her candy I'll take it --- but I am not going to ask for it or anything. I mostly want her just to get to go outside and see the other kids.
