when you sign up for trs nyc there is a spot on the form to indicate you previously were in NYSTRS. Write your membership number and date of membership and they will transfer for you...

I got a form off the TRS website and filled it out, mailed it in and they rolled it into my city retirement. Was pretty simple, just took a while to process if I remember correctly.

same here, but I went from the city system to the state.
i would wait until you're absolutely sure you are done with the state system. your years don't go away, so if you think you'll be back, i might not transfer yet.
