I am DVRing it while I watch the VMA's. I might switch over if the awards get really boring though.

Yes. I just started reading the book series that the show is based on. I had no idea that this show was based on these books until I just saw the show description.

I liked it. I have so many questions that I hope get answered throughout the series! I love when a new show starts that I like!

I watched, but either I was too tired, or it was a little too boring for me. I'm going to try and watch again next week and see if I can get into it then. I guess switching back from the HORRIBLE VMA's to this didn't help either. Chat Icon

I thought it was - eh.

I loved the concept! Vampires have come "out of the coffin" to live life amongst the mortals. Sounds very cool.
I also love Anna Paquin!! So i really wanted to like it.

But I felt it was a little too overacted and mellodramatic. And too much going on. I have no interest in the brother's storyline.

But I will give it another shot.

The story lines somewhat tie together.
I am a fan of the books, so I watched it, and I think they did a good job with it.

I am a little annoyed that it is a TV series now though, because I haven't finished reading the series & it is so hard to get them out of the library now! Chat Icon

Re: True Blood on HBO now

This show is by Alan Ball, ala Six Feet Under. I always expect the first show to be kind of weak because there's a certain "get to know the character" stuff going on.

Her grandmother is Aunt Meg from Twister. I always loved her as an actress, so endearing.

Anna Paquin's character was a little annoying and a little sickly sweet. We're going to keep watching though.

I figured it would, but it was a lot to take in on the first episode. It was one thing to get to know the character. But that plot line could have been developped later.

I also love the grandmother! She was in How To Make an American Quilt- which I hadn't seen in years until last week!

I agree about Anna Paquin. I couldn't tell if it was her acting or just the character but whatever it was it was intolerable. Will definitely give the show another shot next week. I hated 6 Feet Under after the first episode but wound up loving the show as it developed.

Re: True Blood on HBO now

I can't decide if Anna Paquin's gap teeth are sexy or in need of braces. I'll give it a few more weeks to decide.

The accents are a bit over the top, but but Bel the vampire is hot.
