Trump: China trade wrecks U.S. jobs
Real estate tycoon says middle class is shrinking because of lost manufacturing.
Real estate tycoon Donald Trump lashed out at the U.S. government on Monday for allowing China to gain the upper hand in trade, which he said had partly led to a loss of U.S. jobs and shrinking of the middle class.
Trump, promoting his new book, "Why We Want You to be Rich", written with real estate investor Robert Kiyosaki, said Americans were facing life in a two-class society where they could either be rich or poor.
America's middle-class was shrinking as the country lost its manufacturing base and jobs to inexpensive imports, Trump said in an interview at his Manhattan office, pointing especially to China.
"If you want to open a business in China, it is virtually impossible," Trump said. "And yet, if China wants to come here and do something, there is no problem whatsoever."
The U.S. trade deficit with the world has grown. Between January and July this year, it rose to $453 billion compared with about $398 billion in the same seven-month period last year. Much of that is due to rising exports from China.
"Maybe you have to literally restrict trade," said Trump, known to millions as the star of "The Apprentice" television show on GE (Charts)-owned NBC. "Because it is not going to be fair, why should you allow it to happen?"
Trump, who is chairman of Trump Entertainment Resorts Inc. (up $0.26 to $18.42, Charts), said the U.S. government had given China the advantage, and failed to promote the interests of U.S. businesses in negotiations.
"China is doing a major number on the United States," Trump said. "If we had politicians that knew what they were doing, they would stop that so fast that your head would spin."
 FINALLY! maybe now our Gov't will listen!

Yes, they're going to listen to Trump. 
Seriously, if it isn't China, it's India, if it isn't India it's another country. Companies (ahem, ahem WALMART!) are greedy and don't care about social responsibility when they're so...they just want a HUGE profit.

Seriously, if it isn't China, it's India, if it isn't India it's another country. Companies (ahem, ahem WALMART!) are greedy and don't care about social responsibility when they're so...they just want a HUGE profit.
and stupid us... we buy stuff made in China every day.

yup! it's a double edge sword. but what he said regarding US co's opening up businesses in China is very true.

it's annoying
but at the same time- most Americans not only have NO idea- but they don't CARE either.
they just keep on doing what they are doing- whether it's supporting the WalMarts of the world- or using too much energy, harming the environment, etc.
people just don't want to DO anything- they want to go on with their lives- and until we can get people to WAKE UP- the government isn't going to be able to fix anything.

not true IMO. the Gov't can restrict the trade w/China until the trade deficit lessens.

the Walmarts of the world they spend WAY too much money giving to campaigns for that to happen.
the only real change will be affected from the bottom, and not the top.
people have to change their consumption.

I don't completely agree...
if the consumer can't buy something made in China b/c the Gov't cut back on some of the trade, the people will have to buy something else.
if less merchandise from China was available, things would change.

I don't think the gov't wants to sever ties with China and p!ss them off by restricting trade...they don't necessarily want them helping their enemies...like N. Korea.
It won't happen.
China gives way too many incentives to foreigners. You'd be surprised what's made there...high end too...

China gives way too many incentives to foreigners. You'd be surprised what's made there...high end too...
yes, Coach bags are now made in China
China is very much aware of the huge trade deficit gap so IMO, it should come as no surprise if the US Gov't stopped some of the trade. our planes are going there 1/2 empty and coming back loaded. that is SO wrong!

right
but also keep in mind that China holds a lot of our investments including our currencies.
if they were to divest- our economy would sink.
