Trump choosing not to get security briefings
http://origin-nyi.thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/307461-trump-turning-away-intelligence-briefings-since-victory-report
Donald Trump has been turning away intelligence briefings since winning the presidency earlier this month, The Washington Post reported.
Since his win, the president-elect has received only two classified intelligence briefings — an initial briefing he got within days of his victory and a second he received on Tuesday in New York before leaving for Florida for the Thanksgiving holiday. That number so far is lower than his predecessors, according to current and former U.S. officials.
In the two weeks since the election, intelligence analysts have been ready to give Trump daily briefings on global developments and security threats, according to The Post.
Vice President-elect Mike Pence has reportedly made time almost every day since the election to receive the intelligence briefings.
A senior U.S. official who gets the same briefings President Obama receives every day said the president-elect has "a lot of catching up to do," and suggested the briefings could help.
Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and a member of Trump's transition team, dismissed criticism and called national security the president-elect's "No. 1 priority."
"And I think he’s taking it very seriously,” Nunes said in an interview with The Post.
“Look how many leaders he’s met with, how many phone calls he’s done, positions he’s filled. People who are being critical need to get a life.” Michael Morell, former deputy CIA director, said the last three presidents-elect made use of the intelligence briefings offered "to literally study the national security issues that they would be facing and the world leaders with whom they would be interacting with as president." “The president-elect is missing out on a golden opportunity to learn about the national security threats and challenges facing our nation,” said Morell, who supported Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
“Knowledge that would be extremely valuable to have when he takes the oath of office and when he steps into the Situation Room for the first time."
He's letting Pence do all of the actual Presidential work, and he's sticking to the "wheeling and dealing" "fun" parts of the job...

I'm looking at the bright sides- maybe he won't be interested in looking at (and then using) the nuclear codes.
And there are fewer chances that state secrets will end up on Twitter, since he's not interested in hearing them.

Trump choosing not to get security briefings
Well I do agree he should be taking the meetings. Interested to hear on why he is not. My other concern is who is reporting on this. Seems to me that when and where and who get briefings should be confidential not shared with the world. But regardless, he should be getting the briefings if in fact he is not.

I don't necessarily disagree with this, but as someone who lives here, I AM concerned and think we have a right to know that our President-elect is pretty much not taking national security seriously - despite what Rep Nunes has to say

Re: Trump choosing not to get security briefings
Horrifying.
Are people paying attention?
There is NO acceptable excuse or reason for this. This job is 24/7 WORK. And it is SCARY. And UNPLEASANT.
And this country voted to bestow this incredible honor/burden on him. Because he said he could lead the free world intelligently and responsibly.
Now what?

Honestly I cant keep anymore but now Im afraid I am going to become complacent which is what will lead to "normalization" of TRUMP and his ways and the people who surround him

His spokesperson said he's concentrating on getting his cabinet and team in place.

Right. The OP was right. He must think it's fun to get "his" team together. But paying attention to OUR safety is a nuisance. He doesn't have the time. But he has time to jet around to "mar-a-lago" and NYC for dinner.
I really can't stand this. It's going to be a long four years.

Trump choosing not to get security briefings
Didn't Trump offer Kasich the VP position where Trump expected Kasich to do all the presidential work? It looks like it was Pence that accepted that deal instead.

Yup. That's just great. A misogynistic homophobic pig pulling the strings on a misogynistic racist a-hole puppet.

Trump choosing not to get security briefings
I wonder if the same people that are outraged at this were also the same people ready to vote for someone who was secretary of state and saw no big deal about sending and receiving classified emails on her personal server or sharing that information with her right hand person who was married to a pedophile who by the way also had access to those emails or asking her maid to print out the information.....

Hillary is NOT going to be our president! The server is irrelevant now but a good distraction from the real conversation that should be happening...
IMO we need to be watching Trumps every move and this is one of them (the list goes on and on btw)...

New material?? Please LOL..how many times HRC voters are going to throw out the racist, bigot and mysoginist argument and you're talking about Trump voters needing new material?
FTR I was trying to bring up a point about the hypocrisy. You can't cry that him not getting security briefings puts us in danger while at the same time defending her actions

Re: Trump choosing not to get security briefings
How about addressing the topic of the post - Trump not taking security briefings. What do you think about that - is it a problem for die hard Trump supporters or is it no big deal for you. We know how Hillary supporters will likely see this. I would love to know what a Trump supporter thinks about this - without discussing someone who is not going to be our president or any other distraction. Please, can you voice your opinion on THIS issue?

Re: Trump choosing not to get security briefings
But I don't defend her actions. As I said, I didn't vote for her!!! and this is not about her. Sooooo, the president elect has declined national security briefings. What other defense or reaction do you have as someone who voted for this individual? I'm very curious.

They don't care because they only voted for him because he's not Hillary. Since he continues to not be Hillary, he's A-OK in their book.
