I now have a new criterion for making a decision about a President- would I let the candidate be alone in a room with my kid? I would say yes to Hillary, Obama, Bernie, even Romney, Bush, McCain- but Trump? No ******* way, ever.
So true. It's sad that this is something you should ever have to consider with a presidential nominee but you're right. Never in a million years would I would my daughter in a room with him, let alone alone with him.
Never!!!
I mean look at all the kids that are SO excited to meet the President and First Lady. The ones that win the science fair, and the Girl Scouts that get to sleep on the lawn. I can't imagine anyone getting excited to have their kids meet Donald and Melania Trump. Former Playboy centerfold hosting a sleepover on the front lawn, and her creepy husband inside shaking hands with the science fair winners. GAG.

Should have been Kasich vs Bernie.
While their political views are very different I feel like at least we would have someone honest and respectful in the office no matter who won.
And more people would be voting FOR a candidate and not AGAINST a candidate.
Yes! Completely agree.
I would have liked that pairing as well.
So while everyone is saying that he was talking about assaulting someone with his vulgar talk and he is not fit to be president, is it presidential to stand by your husband for years when he was accused of the same exact thing. To me that does not mean Hillary is a strong person, it makes her compliant with her husbands actions.
I don't want my daughter looking up to someone as vulgar as trump and I don't want her looking up to someone like Hillary for a multitude of reasons. Any way this plays out we are all screwed.

To compare the cheating man to the cheated on woman and declare the latter to be worse is the absolute definition of sexism and part of what perpetuates a culture that devalues women.

I don't think what DJT said was that far off from what most powerful men think and/or say to each other on a daily basis. My husband is a police officer and in the military and I have heard him, his coworkers and friends say things that are just as bad, if not worse. I worked in commercial real estate in a male dominated office and heard it all there too.
Also, there are women who gladly LET these men treat them that way: objectify them, use them, pay for their lifestyle, etc. And not just in DJT's circles. They are known as "badge bangers" among the cops in my area.
I can't really get angry at someone for making those comments when I feel that many women play into that role and allow men to treat them that way.

Respectfully, if you are writing off these comments as no big deal and "just the way guys talk", then you either
a. don't know what rape culture is
or
b. know and are ok with it.
This is not a matter of opinion. Rape culture is a not a vague, amorphous concept about behavior towards women.
If you are not sure what it is THAT'S OK. No one knows everything about everything. I sure as shit don't.
But please, people, if we ever want to work towards incremental change in the way society views women, it is NOT the time to toss our hands up and say, "eh, no big deal."

I work in a corporate setting, in a male dominated field. I hear worse then this on almost a daily basis. I know what rape culture is, I am not ok with it, but what are my choices? If I made a big deal out of every time I heard something sexist or misogynistic, I wouldn't have a job. If I refused to take clients that were pigs, I'd have no clients.
I agree that it's terrible but what can I do? Should I ruin my career to scold a bunch of men who will think I'm just a crazy *****, because (I won't say all but) a lot of men see nothing wrong with talking like that. I'm sure the wives of these men have no idea their husbands talk like this, if they did, they prob wouldn't be married anymore.

Re: Trump recorded making extremely derogatory, lewd, and aggressive comments about women...
I don't see the comparison between the Clinton's marriage and Trump's attitude.
Yes, Bill Clinton is a pig who has behaved questionably with women. I feel like so much there has been convoluted and we don't know what's truthful and what's not. But affairs are consensual. Trump appears to view beautiful women as prey, and that's frightening.
And I don't feel the Clinton marriage, and why she stayed, is our business. To be honest, I think she would be more popular if she had left him. Trump's comments not only show his attitude, they show a lack of ability to control his impulses, and we do not want someone like him being in charge of national security, and negotiating with world leaders. He'd blow up ships just for fun which he has pretty much stated.

For those who haven't heard talk like this, I'm assuming it's because many men know how you would respond and deliberately avoid talking like his around you. That doesn't mean they don't talk like it at all.

No. My husband would NEVER speak like this about women with or without me around. He has respect for women. He is a son, a father and a husband and would never allow anyone to speak that way about the women in his life. Do not assume because the men in your life speak this way that it is the case for all men.

And . . . that makes it OK???? So, you just accept it? Seriously, if I ever heard my DH speaking like this, there'd be a really big problem between us. I don't doubt that SOME men speak like this - but they are not running to be PRESIDENT of this country or any other public office. It's never OK to talk like this, but if you want to run for public office, you dam well better expect that ALL the skeletons in your closet will come out and you will be called to answer for them. Misogyny, sexism, racism, xenophobia, - "Making America Great Again" oh, yeah

Agreed. DH said this morning that his friends talk about girls, but never like this.
Also, TMZ is reporting that this conversation started because Nancy O'Dell said no to Trump's sexual advances. He also wanted to fire her from hosting the Miss Universe pageant because she was too pregnant. NBC vetoed him. I personally have a new found respect for her.
Just because it happens all the time does not mean we should just sit back and accept it. Progress does not happen by sitting back and saying, "Well that's how it's always been."

I agree. My husband would never say things like that either. In fact, when he hears talk like this, he says to the person that it's not something you do to women.
He said he was having lunch with a coworker (I'm friends with the coworkers girlfriend) and this guy just wanted to point out and comment on other women around. My husband told him he doesn't do that. The other guy was kind of taken aback.
I don't know, but maybe I have a strange feminist DH.
ETA: I'm not saying he has never commented on women with friends, but rather he doesn't do it anymore.

Trump recorded making extremely derogatory, lewd, and aggressive comments about women...
It almost seems to me that some women feel like they're in the cool crowd bc men speak like this in front of them. I know that's just my interpretation but it's the way it's coming across to me. I'm not going to say I've never heard anything remotely close come out of a guy's mouth during late night drinking and hanging out but it's not the norm and they sure aren't running for president. Women who sit by acting like it's normal are perpetuating it as normal and some poor woman down the line is going to pay for this talk when some guy goes too far. It's so sad and upsetting.

I did not say it was worse and it is not just a cheating issue. It was assault accusations. If I am going to condemn a man for talking trash about women I am also going to think a wife is compliant if she stayed with her husband after multiple assault allegations. So what are we teaching our daughters, not to accept men to talk and act vulgar towards them but that it's ok to stay with a man who is vulgar and had charges brought against him. Neither are something I would want for my daughter. And again like it was said my multiple people in this thread, we are talking about people running for president not the every day person.
And let me be clear, I am not a Trump supporter but it just annoys me that people jump at every single thing the man does and never ever think Hillary is in the wrong and just brush her issues under the rug. Neither one of them are fit to be President.

"Not my husband" "Not my kid"
People throw that around. Along with the word Never.
As niave as some of you think I am... right back at you.
And no. I don't think im "cool" because men I know allow me the knowledge that this is how men act. It's just that my eyes are always wide open. I don't choose to stay in a bubble of butterflies with a husband who walks one water
Not once did I say it was Ok he said these things. My original comment was how it doesn't shock me because this is how guys talk when they are together. And I couldn't understand everyone was so shocked that trump said them.
This can go on forever. Still doesn't shock me

Because he's not just a regular person talking about a celebrity in a photo who will probably never meet the person. He's not saying he wants to do xyz to some woman. He's saying he can do xyz to women he meets bc he's a celebrity. He basically implied that he doesn't wait for any sort of invitation and just kisses or grabs whoever he wants, he can't help it and he can bc of who he is. It's very different imo.

I get your point.
But it's the grabbing part. I never once read that someone here said that they'd grab Ben Affleck's ..... that's the part that is alarming the most (to me).
You grab things that are quick and readily available - you grab for the things you aren't handed. Your taking what you want, need and what's yours (in your mind).
That's rape culture.
And yes Bill Clinton is a creep and had numerous sexual assault allegations. I believe it. Smoke = fire. I think many men in powerful positions act like this. It's wrong and gross and we need to call it out.
Plus - poor Melania. Poor Ivanka. How will this be defended? "My dad respects women". 'No... he doesn't.
And what really gets me - this ******* creepy guy says this - that u can grab women by the ***** but then is against the women's right to choice to have an abortion??? It's sickening. So it's ok to demean and joke about sexually assaulting but as women, we have no choice over our bodies but he has a say. About our bodies. But it's ok if he grabs us. Because he can do anything. ******* sickening.
Does anyone know about the rape allegation about trump and the 14 year old? I believe it. I also believe it all against Clinton.
I'm so over this election. What a ******* joke. It can't get any worse. What a disgrace.

Honestly, I don't think all men talk like this. A lot do though. I would never in a million years think my husband would speak like this. He actually blushes and gets embarrassed about any sort of sexy talk. I never say never though. I don't know how my husband behaves when he's out with his friends, if he goes along with the things they say or who knows. I probably have no way of finding out because his friends aren't going to rat on him and I have better things to do then spy on him. I know one of his friends continuously tries to cheat on his wife (only because I've seen text messages to my DH about it). His wife is the first to say that her husband would never cheat on her. That's why I never say never. I just trust that my husband isn't like that.
At industry parties, I see the same men that are pigs on a daily basis, being completely respectable gentlemen because their wives are there. Those women have no clue.

I know talk like this goes on between many, many men and if you can sit there and say "Oh no, not my husband/brother/father!" then I think you're being pretty naive. He said it in a personal conversation, not on a public stage. Is it right? No. But uncommon? Certainly not. It just sucks for him that this was outed. I'm not a supporter of his but I also don't think it's surprising to hear two males talk like this.
