Trying Baby Foods....Q when (HELP)
they don't like something.
We started off w/ pears which she loved & moved on to peaches, she liked those.
Then we moved to applesauce (something I thought she'd love) & she basically refuses to eat them...she'll turn her head & stick out her tongue...we tried for 2 days...no luck so we stopped when she got to the point where she was gagging a little.
Next we moved on to bananas....this she'd eat 2-3 spoons of it & then turn her head too.
I've mixed them w/ cereal...
I'm not sure why she's not liking both of these, but not sure if you continue to give it to them for the 3-4 days or if you stop, try something else & come back to it.
Also what would be next???
We did: Pears, peaches, applesauce, bananas
Do you try prunes for 3 days (isn't that dangerous??? )
Any other fruits or is it onto veggies?
Thanks

Re: Trying Baby Foods....Q when (HELP)
I gave everything 3-4 tries. So far he's liked everything by then.
Do you warm the food?
DS won't eat them unless they are warmed up. I couldn't figure out why he was refusing some, but once I warmed them he gobbled them right up.
We did apples, pears, bananas, prunes, peas and sweet potatoes at first.
Now he's doing Stage 2s, so there are a lot more options. We're using Gerber Organics.

Re: Trying Baby Foods....Q when (HELP)
I give everything 3-4 days even when they don't like it. If she really hates something maybe mix it with something she does like and as each day put less of what she likes until she really gives it a try.
I did apples, pears, peaches, bananas. I skipped prunes but I did buy a few to eventually try - I am more afraid what it may do. I ifgured I wait until he eats something that constipates him and then try the prunes. Then I did butternut squash, sweet potatoes, and carrots. All stage 1. Now I started stage 2 - I did peas and now I am on green beans. Once I finish that, I am moving on to meat mixtures - chicken and turkey first.

Re: Trying Baby Foods....Q when (HELP)
If DD didn't like something I would just try again in another week or so... Don't force it... I DID NOT do prunes!!

Re: Trying Baby Foods....Q when (HELP)
Thanks ladies....Lauren, thanks so much for the tip of warming it up...at times it was in the fridge...that may make a difference.
How long do you warm it for? do you do it in the microwave?
Thanks too for the suggestion of mixing w/ something she does like..we were just mixing w/ cereal..but I'm sure if we mixed w/ pears & gradually increased it, that may help.

For the ones in the plastic containers I warm it in the microwave for 10-15 seconds.
For the ones in the glass jars I warm it in the bottle warmer.
I bet that will make a difference for you - Logan HATES cold bottles or food.
Good luck!

Re: Trying Baby Foods....Q when (HELP)
I wouldn't make her continue to eat something that she doesn't have a liking for right now. Especially when there are foods that she does like.
We did prunes and DD loved them. They have a prunes & apple mix. Since you know she doesn't have a reaction to applesauce, you could do that now.

Re: Trying Baby Foods....Q when (HELP)
I try everything with DS and he turns his head after a few bites. My plan is to keep on trying and not rule things out unless he is allergic

Re: Trying Baby Foods....Q when (HELP)
I am not sure if you are using organic or not but if you are I noticed that the applesause and banana are super sweet so that may be why. I know for my DD she isn't a fan of them either and I slowly added a little at a time to her cereal.

Re: Trying Baby Foods....Q when (HELP)
I made the mistake of giving prunes to DD for 3 days and she was literally up to her armpits in poop, lol!!!
ETA: I've read in a few different places that since the tasetbuds are still developing that it can take up to 12 times for a baby to really decide if they like it or not.

Re: Trying Baby Foods....Q when (HELP)
Thanks for all the words of wisdom ladies. We were using organic...so maybe it is very sweet, hence her not liking it?
Not sure how to do the prunes then...is it okay to do for a day or 2? Or to do once a day w/ a food she already has had the 2x?
Would you try those foods again at a later time?

I think the organic is less sweet.
I've given DS prunes for days in a row with no issue. They seem to be his favorite.
When I introduce something new I try to pair it with something old. So the first meal of the day will be the new thing and the 2nd meal is the one I know he's already had.
I was doing the whole 3 day rule, but I think I'm going to wing it going forward.

Re: Trying Baby Foods....Q when (HELP)
There are a ton more fruits....
I stay away from berries. This is just me but I wait to feed them berries until they can actually eat the berry itself...
But you can try:
Plums (gerber has them w/apples) Mango Guave Papya Banana w/orange
She might be turning her nose up at the texture too not just the flavor..All the foods you listed have different textures. I always mix a little bit of cereal in with the fruit (in the beginning) so Im not dealing with a texture issue. Pears are very gritty...Bananas are really smooth..etc.

Re: Trying Baby Foods....Q when (HELP)
I was having the same problem. I think mine gets bored of the position he is in while eating. I personally feed him on my lap and it helps. I would try to get the same fruit into her system for the 3-4 days even if its just a little bit because you are mainly doing it to see if there is a reaction. After that, if the she doesnt like it, you dont have to feed it again.
