Trying for a boy or a Girl
First let me preface this by saying that I would be thrilled to bits to be pregnant with a boy or a girl and I really mean that. However I already have one girl and would love for her to have a sister SO while I have been online checking my ovulation calender it gives you the chances of conceiving a boy or a girl depanding on the day you BD and your ovulation day.
Anyone on here actually do this and does it work?
If my online chart is correct then I should BD today and tomorrow for a girl, O on tuesday and not BD sunday or monday. Part of this scares me as what if I didnt succeed with BD'g today or tomorrow and if I dont BD on Sun or Monday am I risking not conceiving at all this month.
Thoughts?

honestly, i think it a lot of BS. you have a 50-50 shot of one or the other. i don't really subsribe to the train of thought that you can somehow plan for the sex of your baby. also, last time i took biology, it is the man that determines the sex of the baby so i am not so sure how your ovulation schedule would have anything to do with it. JMO...

I don't think this works either. But I have heard of it before.

Re: Trying for a boy or a Girl
Thanks..I "think" how it works is the sperm containing the female chromosones swim slower but stronger while the male chromosones swim faster. If you were to BD 2 days before O then the sperm carrying the female chromosones would still be alive by O day while the male ones would have died off. If you were to BD the day of O then the chances of the male chromosones getting to the just realeased egg are higher as they would race past the femal ones and arrive there first!!
That is my basic understanding of it but I could be off base.
Either way I think I will just BD this weekend and see what happens
Thanks everyone.

This is true- but I don't necessarily believe it works. You could give it a shot, though!

I've read that on this site, but does anyone know if this is really true? Are there scientific studies proving that "female" sperm swim slower than "male" sperm? Just curious b/c SIL mentioned something about studying this theory in a college science course and it apparently wasn't true.

Re: Trying for a boy or a Girl
I haven't heard of that, but I can understand you wanting a sister for your DD. I have a sister and appreciate her more than anything. My only worry for you would be, you already only have a 20-25% chance every month of getting pregnant, do you want to reduce your chances by only BDing on certain days? If so, go for it and I hope you get what you want!

Re: Trying for a boy or a Girl
There may be the SLIGHTEST scientific evidence for it, but honestly...in my opinion, when people try really hard for something that is best left up to chance, they get disappointed.
DH's cousin tried twice for a boy. He has two girls. They did what they read about times during ovulation, diff. "positions".
What is meant to happen will happen. I am not saying i don't understand your desire for your DD to have a sister (i think sisters are great!) but if you end up having a little boy next that will be wonderful too (i know you know that!). Without medical intervention where they isolate one gender sperm, i don't think it is at all possible to plan.
