Trying so hard to teach him body parts.
Is there some trick to doing this? I was trying forever to teach him to show me his nose, foot, hand, belly. Suddenly the other day, I tickled his chest and I said, "chest." Now, whenever I say show me your chest, he pulls on his shirt, like a little kid pretending to have boobs. He looks very proud when he does this!!!
He is so small that there really isn't much space between his chest and his belly anyway, and now I think he will get mixed up if I try to teach him belly just after he learned chest! I feel like "chest" is a weird body part to learn first, especially after months of trying to teach him other parts!!!!!!!
He is also finally getting "nose" but all he does is move his face toward me when I ask him to show me his nose. He doesn't lift a finger to point to it. Well, I should be glad he doesn't pick his nose, either, I guess!

Very cute!
What I did with DD was point to the parts on me and DH. She didn't really "get" what I was pointing on her for a while so I stuck to me, DH and her dolls/stuffed animals.

Thanks. I've been doing some of both, pointing on me and on him, because I didn't really know what to do!

Every time I changed their diaper, I would go over "Your toes & feet. Your ankle & your calves. Your knees & your thighs (then tickle the thighs)...and keep going upward.

Re: Trying so hard to teach him body parts.
We have just been very repetitive with each body part until she can point to it on herself and others...then we move onto the next.
She knows her nose, eyes, ears, head, mouth, teeth, feet and belly. I started with knees today.

We just kept repeating it until she remembered it. We would ask her where certain things were, and she would point to them....some of the time correctly even! My favorite now is that she knows eyebrows....and she loves to point to them and say "eyebrow".
When you ask her where her belly is, she does lift her shirt up to tell you, which can be pretty funny!

Re: Trying so hard to teach him body parts.
I think you already know Caden's story...
He was a little over a year old and I realized that we had never "taught" him the parts of the body...
So I started asking him where certain parts of his body were...Imagine my surprise when he knew 4 body parts...head, nose, belly, & penis
They truly pick up so much just from day to day....since then he has picked up so many other body parts...eyes, mouth, ears, hands, feet etc...
What I do is kind of add to the game a bit each time..."Caden where is your nose" he points to his nose "Caden where is your eyes" he points to his eyes "Caden where is your knee" Insert confused look...I then point to or squeeze his knee and say "there it is" and continue with one that he knows..etc etc...

With all the things kids pick up these days I certainly hope a certain lady doesn't know where Caden's penis is!

Re: Trying so hard to teach him body parts.
They just start to get it when you label them in natural conversation and play! It's amazing how things don't need to be directly taught - they just absorb information from the environment - as long as the environment is interactive and rich with language, which most environments are. the only time things like this need to be directly taught is when there are issues, but that isn't the case here!
Cailen learned just by playing and when he touched my nose, I would say, Mommy's nose, and then he would touch his nose, I would say Cailen's nose - now the mommy-Cailen game is his favorite!
He knows every body part - including the private parts!

We actually leave that body out of our repetoire....
For no other reason than it causes him to actually want to show you his penis not just point to where it is located....

We've done something similar...we make a game of it. He also sings "Head shoulders Knees and Toes." Then when he is in his downtime from playing I quiz him
