trying zumba..and i'm TERRIFIED!

i'm going to try a class tomorrow after work. now i'm a avid yogini, and do spin classes as well. i'm shaking in my boots.

i bring new meaning to the term, "white girl." i can't dance to save my life. i guess i'll just plop myself in the middle of the room so passerby-ers won't be scarred with what they see.

do i need to get there early? is someone going to smack me if i take their spot? what should i expect?

thanks!!

Zumba is a lot of fun do not be scared. In my experience everyone is paying attention to the instructor and not the other members of the class. If you are really worried stand in the back. Try to have fun!!

I agree that everyone will be watching the teacher and not you!

My personal feeling is that you should get there a little bit early and try to be close to the instructor so that you can see what they are doing. If the class is crowded and you are in the back, you end up trying to follow someone who is trying to follow the teacher.

You will NOT get the steps right away - and everyone was new at some point! Even when an instructor introduces new material for the first time it is a bit messy even for those who have been going forever.

Definitely give it a few tries. I know the first time I took it, it didn't even feel like a workout. I quickly realized it was because I didn't catch most of the steps the first few times. Also, try a few different instructors if you can - they can make (or break) the class.

Just have fun with it!

Re: trying zumba..and i'm TERRIFIED!

I LOVE Zumba. I was so terrified the first time I went. I have rhythm but I'm not graceful at all Chat Icon I was able to follow about half the steps the first time and the 2nd time I got most of them. I have found an instructor that I love and I try to do classes with mainly her because except when she introduces a new song, I know all the moves. It makes for a much better workout I feel.
