TTC crasher Omega/DHA question
I was wondering what brand/type of Omega vit's anyone on here is taking? I am currently taking my normal Omega vit I always have. Is that ok? I saw that Target has a combo pre-natal DHA in the rainbow lights brand, however the DHA says it contains Mackrel (which I thought was high risk to avoid)? So confused. TIA!

Re: TTC crasher Omega/DHA question
i only started taking prenatals when i got pregnant both times. before that, i just took a regular women's multivitamin.
call your OB and ask what he recommends, if anything. mine said to not bother until i got pregnant, so that's what i did.
DHA typically comes from fish as far as i understand.

Re: TTC crasher Omega/DHA question
I took over the counter prenatals before I got pregnant. Once I became pregnant, I showed the bottle to my OB, and he said they didn't have enough folic acid, that none of the OTC prenatals do. He gave me samples of different prenatals with DHA, and then wrote me a prescription for a generic that my insurance accepted -- Renate DHA. I've had no problems with them.
He also said that the OTC with a folic acid supplement would be fine too.
I agree, you should check with your OB, but in the meantime, while TTC, nothing OTC could hurt.

Re: TTC crasher Omega/DHA question
I take Trader Joe's brand...they make one that's moelcularly distilled so that it's mercury-free and odorless!! (no fishy aftertaste)
i think it contains something like 1000mg Omega 3 and 200mg or 250 DHA.
HTH!!

You want to make sure your fish oil is purified so that there is no mercury. I buy mine at whole foods.

Re: TTC crasher Omega/DHA question
Before I got my prenatals, I was taking a purified fish oil supplement by Twin Labs brand, it specificially states how little mercury is in each capsule.
Supplements are not regulated so you can't assume anything. I read the labels carefully and call the company if I'm still unsure.
Some more expensive brands make DHA from algae which is very low in mercury levels and actually has properties that help the body rid mercury.
