TTC, insensitive family and dollar tree opk

i just wanted to say how helpful this forum has been for my husband & I. so much support, asking the very same questions that concern me too! it's been great.

we just started trying. first month we took a romantic trip to a tropical island and started BDing all week long. second month we tried those dumb dollar tree opk. now this weekend we'll be going into month three, if i dont get a BFP. and if i don't we're going to get those digital jammies. those dollar tree opk's are so difficult to read, i thought i was testing correctly and not ovulating, and if it wasn't for coming here to this forum, i would not know otherwise.

meanwhile, just last night insensitive family member says too much. { my brother calls me to ask me if DH is putting too much pressure on me to conceive. he said my DH was giving me dirty looks at the last get together we had because i may have been drinking too much wine. he then proceeds to tell me, maybe he's the reason you guys are having a hard time, maybe he has a low sperm count! }

jerk-face.

i want to slap him. it took me by surprise, so i just kindly tried to educate him a bit about ovulation and suddenly realized i felt i was talking to my brother about it in too much detail and that i almost felt i was defending myself?

i do drink a lot and my hubs has every reason to give me any look he so desires when ever i drink. i of course dont drink nearly as much now that we're TTC, but it still worries him, which i'm very sensitive to. he supports my craziness, moodswings, trust issues and all of the above, the only thing he doesn't like it my drinking, and i dont have a problem with it.

but for my idiot brother to call, ask if i was alone, and proceed to say maybe he has a low sperm count. might as well have said, maybe you're barren sis!

so i came here to the TTC forum, and kept reading the Intro thread, and took comfort in reading about all you couples who have been trying just like us. i like this place. thanks for talking so openly about something you just can't talk to everyone about. it helps.

I loved that you used the word "jerk face" i say that all the time! and that certainly is what he was! lol

People always try to stick their nose where it doesn't belong. This is a great forum and I ove how open everyone is. I learn alot every day. It's amazing what there is to know, and I don't think growing up I ever knew it was like this to have a baby!

As for the drinking i don't think you can stop your life. Hang in there!

Two parter here.

You should have slapped him-since you once shared a uterus, you earned that right. What a loser! A nice good hard slap! How insensitive. People don't realize that TTC is nothing like it looks. It is not nearly as easy as people think!

Second, I know nothing about Dollar Tree OPKs or HPTs-never actually seen or used one. I liked the answer strips and when I would see two lines that were somewhat comparable, I would use the CBE digi. You can try that. This way, since you only get 7 digis, you can save some $$

Smack your brother and tell him to butt out. Family does that and they need to shut up. This is a matter between you and DH and you will handle it as you see fit. As per drinking, just work on cutting back. I understand vices, and just keep it under wraps the best you can!
