TTC newbie with questions
Hi ladies, I am new to the TTC so I'm not very familiar with the lingo yet. I've been off the patch for a month now. Today is the first day of AF for me, exactly 28 days from my last period. I know ovulation is 14 days from today which would be 9/2 (I've been lurking here for some time). So how many days before and after CD14 should I BD? My dr. told me to call for prenatal vitamins when we're ready so I'm gong to call tomorrow. Is there anything esle that I need to do? I feel like we're missing something. Thanks!

Re: TTC newbie with questions
I hope you don't mind - I don't mean to be contrary, but just because you had a 28 day cycle, it does not mean you ovulated on CD14 OR that you WILL ovulate on CD14 this next cycle. I just don't want you to mistakenly think this and potentially miss your O date!
I just wrote this in another post and am pasting it here - feel free to ask any questions if I've confused you at all.
Yes, PLEASEEEEE do not think ovulation is on CD14. That is a very common misconception.
One possible way of GUESTIMATING when you potentially O is to take your average cycle length and subtract 12 from it and also subtract 16 from it. The average luteal phase (the number of days between when you O and when you get your period) is 12-16 days. BUT, due to many life factors like stress, your date of Oing can change.
So like the PP said, look out for the signs especially:
- Increase in CM, especially if you have EWCM. BD everyday or every other day you have EWCM!!!! That is the best kind of CM that sperm can survive in.
Note that it is likely that you O'd on the last day you had EWCM or the day after that. But of course, you won't know that until after your CM has dried up, so that's why it's important to BD whenever you have it.
Good luck!!!

Thank you for the advice. I totally understand what you're saying. We are going to BD as much as we can. We actually took off from work that entire week for our 1 year anniversary. I do have another question. I know it can take some girls a while to get AF after they come off the pill. Since I did get my AF, does that mean I will definately ovulate this month? Sorry if this is a dumb question. I've been on the pill and the patch for over 10 years now.

Sorry to hit you with another question. I had to look up what CM and EWCM mean. I feel like I have CM or EWCM all the time, even when I was on the patch. I don't know what the difference is between the two is visually. I know what they are. Should I expect to see a difference now that I'm not on birth control?

Not a stupid question at all!
Unfortunately there is no guarantee that you will definitely ovulate or that your cycle will be an average length regardless of what happened last month. However, I would assume you will and just watch out for the right fertility signs like you type of CM.

Someone had posted a link to a picture of actual EWCM. I'm on my blackberry all day so its too hard to search for the link. But if you register for one of the free online sites (a lot of women recommend fertilityfriend.com) you can get a lot of info and some great descriptions of different kinds of CM.
It could be possible to always have CM, but I don't think you would have EWCM all the time. Definitely look up the descriptions and pics so you can see the difference. Good luck!
