Tubs in the ears- moms who have BTDT- tell me your stories
Jordana is having her surgery tomorrow. I'm kinda nervous. She had a fever Tuesday, but only for a few hours and since I gave her Tylenol (not Motrin), they will do the surgery. She is at my mom's now so she can watch her (instead of sending her back to daycare- where she may get sick again).
The surgery is at Cornell Universeity. We have to be there early tomorow morning- 90 minutes before surgery.
Any tips, stories or relaying of experiences on what to do before- recovery- advice- would be appreciated. Thank you!

Re: Tubs in the ears- moms who have BTDT- tell me your stories
Abby had her tubes done in June at an ambulatory surgey center at LIJ. We brought her in at 6 am. We signed in and sat for a little bit. They take the youngest patients first because of the fasting - they dont want them fasting too long because they get cranky. At about 7am, we were called in. They took info from us, talked to us about her medical history, allergies, etc. The doctor and anesthesiologist spoke with us. Then at about 7:25, they took her from us. We got a waiver for free coffee (DH had tea) and sat down. At 7:45, Abby's ENT came out and told us it was done. We went in to see her 5 minutes later and she was hysterical. She could have been hungry, but I think she was scared. She was back to herself an hour or two later and slept through our breakfast at a local diner.
I guarantee it will be harder on you than on your DD. The little hospital gowns they give them are too cute! FM me with any questions.

My nephew had them done in both ears. It was harder on my sister seeing them put him out, then it was on him. I believe it took no time at all. We were waiting longer than the acutally "surgery" took. He was back to "normal" after a nap.
Good Luck!!!!!

Re: Tubs in the ears- moms who have BTDT- tell me your stories
My son had tubes put in this Jan. It was very quick, maybe 15 minutes. We were right outside the O.R. When they woke him up he was totally hysterical for like 15 minutes. I brought the portable DVD player with us and that calmed him down a lot! Within an hour he was totally back to normal.
There was really no recovery, I just gave him motrin at night for a week. His ears were draining for 7-10 days. Within a week of the surgery you could really tell he could finally hear, it was amazing. His language has progressed SO much. I am so happy that we got it done.
I'm sure it will be great! Good Luck!

BOTH my boys had them done. We had to go in early too, and it is really fast. They first give them a medice ( I forgot what it was called) it make sthem loopy. You walk in the ER room and saty until they are knocked out. 15 minutes passed and the Dr. took us in to see them (they were done on separate days) and they both cried hysterical in the recovery room, it was scary, but they say that most chldren do that because of the aneastesia (spelled that wrong). They got juice, calmed down, and went home to take a nap and woke up like NOTHING ever happened. It is not that bad. I think we get more upset than they do. I have to say getting them done was WORTH it. They havent had an ear infection since (knock on wood).

Re: Tubs in the ears- moms who have BTDT- tell me your stories
Miki had hers about a month ago
we got to the hospital and they put us in a pre oip room, they came in and gave her some versed which made her really "high"....she was calm though
when they came to take her from me to the OR (the nurse carried her to the OR) she did cry for me
we then went into the waiting room and 30 minutes or so later, they were done (she also had her adenoids removed)
the nurse brought us back to recovery and warned us that she was crying (which is totally normal after waking up from anesthesia)....when we got back there, she was HYSTERICAL....I sat in a rocking chair and tried to console her...she was inconsolable for about 15 minutes but then she calmed down
when we got home, she ate a whole bagel (even though the Dr said she would probably not be hungry)..and asked to go outside and play
I wanted her to rest that day so I did not let her play outside...she took a 3 hour nap and was totally fine after that, you would never even know she had surgery
good luck, she will be fine but I know how stressful this is
