Tuesday's 4:51 Train from Penn to Ronkonkoma
its taken me a few days to post this, because i have been so wrapped up in work, but i wanted to share.
On Tuesday as i walked down to track 13 to catch the 4:51, I thought maybe I should hop on the 5:04 on track 14 to guarentee that i get a sit...but then decided to try the 4:51 anyway because there are less stops to Ronkonkoma
I was lucky enough to find a seat and we basically pulled away just as I sat down. Shortly into the trip an announcement was made that there was a medical emergency in car 11 and anyone medical personal please report to car 11.
Immediatly after the announcement, this PIG of a woman starts complaining how we are going to be late, she should have taken the 5:04 and how this is just her luck. I thought to myself, how is this your luck, someone has an emergency serious enough that they are asking for medical personal to proceed to car 11 and its Pig Lady with the bad luck
We end up stopping at Woodside, so that EMT's can board the train and help the person who needs it. Pig Lady starts in again. "Great, we are going to be here for an hour", "Couldn't that guy have gotten on a different train, why did he have to pick mine".....
EMT's did board rather quickly after we stopped and about 15 minutes later 3 new EMT's were on the platform wheeling a stretcher. Pig Lady starts again..."can't they run, this is a peak train, i would like to get home some time today"
The man who collects tickets enters our car to do his job. Pig Lady complains that we shouldn't have to pay since we had to stop
about 25 minutes after we pulled into Woodside, we were back on our way. An announcement is made that an unplanned stop at Jamacia will be made to give passangers an opportunity to transfer to other trains. Pig Lady, just can't help herself...."Oh great here we go, like we aren't late enough"
At this point one of the comments that i was thinking of in my head slipped out...I blurted out "That's right lady, its your world, we're all just living in it"
The man next to me, says "finally, maybe now she will shut up"
When Pig Lady finally got off in Deer Park, a few people clapped. Thankfully my slip of the mouth did not cause a fight; but i couldn't get over how this woman mad this poor man's emergency her problem.

good for you for speaking up. i used to ride NJ transit out of PENN and a few times have been held for hours due to someone jumping on the tracks.
Cant tell you how many comments of "they had to commit suicide at rush hour..couldnt they pick a better time" comments.

Great comment!
This reminds me of people who, when stuck in traffic, say, "I hope it's just an accident."

Re: Tuesday's 4:51 Train from Penn to Ronkonkoma
I think I get like 'pig lady' from time to time. I get frustrated in traffic or I'll get irritated when the line at the grocery store is ridiculous. I don't usually VERBALIZE my frustration for the world to hear.. but I definitely will sometimes hear my inner dialogue making me sound pretty atrocious and selfish sometimes and I get ashamed and have to snap myself back into seeing the bigger picture. It's usually because I have something else going on in my life - sometimes it is genuinely difficult for me to look beyond my own situation when I'm mired in some funk about whatever it is.
I am glad you said something to the woman.. I hope it was the mental slap she needed to realize that she had allowed herself and her own situation to get spiral into that 'all about ME' pattern!

Re: Tuesday's 4:51 Train from Penn to Ronkonkoma
People are so self-centered! If you're selfish enough to be having those thoughts, at LEAST have the decency to keep them to yourself.
DH is a big Weird Al fan, and this reminds me of this song.:
"Why Does This Always Happen To Me?"
I was watching my TV one night when they broke in with a special report About some devastating earthquake in Peru There were thirty thousand crushed to death, even more were buried alive On the Richter scale it measured 8.2
And I said, "God, please answer me one question?" "Why'd they have to interrupt 'The Simpsons' just for this?" What a drag, 'cause I was taping it and everything And now I'll have to wait for the rerun to see the part of the show I missed
Why does this always happen? Why does this always happen to me? Why does this always happen? (Why) Why does this always happen to me?
Ba ba ba ba, ba ba ba ba ba Ba ba ba ba, ba ba ba ba ba
I was driving down the highway when all the traffic slowed to a crawl There was a twelve-car pile-up, everybody dead And I saw brains and guts and vital organs splattered everywhere As well as my friend Robert's disembodied head
And I thought - Poor Rob, I just had lunch with him Hey, wait a minute, he still owes me money - what a jerk Well, there's five bucks that I'm never gonna see again Plus now, on top of everything else, it looks like I'm gonna be late to work
Why does this always happen? Why does this always happen to me? Why does this always happen? (Why) Why does this always happen to me?
Ba ba ba ba, ba ba ba ba ba Ba ba ba ba, ba ba ba ba ba Ba ba ba ba, ba ba
Oh, the other day, my boss said we were running low on toner And he told me I should buy another case Well, I told him I was busy, but he still just kept on asking So, I turned around and stabbed him in the face (right in the face)
Oh, and wouldn't you know it, my knife got stuck I guess that's probably bound to happen now and then But I'm afraid I may have bent the tip a little And I know that blade will never ever be quite as sharp again (quite as sharp again) Oh, tell me
Why does this always happen? Why does this always happen to me? Why does this always happen? Why does this always happen to me?

Haha, I'll admit I can get that way too. Not if I'm on my way home, but I get these thoughts if I'm on my way to something important. But like you said, I would never verbalize it.

I'd have told her that when she needs medical attention that you hope the train keeps going so you can get home.
