Turning the car seat

When did you turn yours? Dd is a year and 20 lbs so I know we could, but I feel like it is safer rear facing and her feet aren't hitting yet.
I asked the ped though, and he said it doesn't really matter, it is ok to turn her anytime.

So my questions are- when did you turn yours and did baby like it better?

Im interested to know too!
Julia is 10 months and 22.5 lbs - and we haven't turned it yet.

I read that baby should be at least 30 lbs to turn it around?

I can't wait to turn it actually - I think she will be so much more comfortable.

DD is 15 months but was only 18lbs at her 15 month appointment so we're still waiting. She doesn't protest much yet, but she looks so cramped but I just couldn't live with myself if something happened.

I think baby must be 20 lbs AND 1 year old before you turn them around, but they say it's actually better to keep them rear-facing as long as you can.

1 year and at least 20 lbs. I can't wait to turn Roman around, a few weeks to go (although by the size of his head I'm sure his neck muscles are strong enough already)Chat Icon

There should be a sticker on the side of your car seat that states when it can be turned around. i.e. our says 1 year and 22 pounds.

Re: Turning the car seat

I saw a quote recently that mentioned about "demoting" your child each time they move up to a new car seat/position. Rear-facing is much safer than front-facing, so I'm not going to rush turning my DDs seat around. 1 year and 20lbs is the Minimum. We moved my DS around when he was kicking the back of the seat. We'll do the same for DD. It may be more convenient, and the child may prefer turning around, but I'm keeping my kids in the safest position possible for as long as possible.

We switched Katherine at like 11.5 months in my DH's car since we were taking a long trip to NC and felt she might like the interaction.

She's 15 months and still rear facing in mine--partially due to safety and partially laziness!

I don't think she cares one way or the other, but I will say, at her size--and mine now that I'm 5 mos. pregnant--it's much easier to get her in the carseat front facing.
