Twin Mom Question-Distance and your parents
I was wondering if any of you twin moms live an hour or so away from your parents? Are you cooping well with it? I know it tough but how tough is it? Currently my husband and I live in Hoboken, and my parents live in Bethpage. Our twins are arriving the end of January and we are going to be living in Hoboken till September of 2011. Was wondering how tough it is really going to be to not have my parents help as easily as it would be if we were on Long Island. I know I am going to still see my parents allot but I just want to make sure I’m making the right decision by staying in Hoboken till September. Thank you!

Re: Twin Mom Question-Distance and your parents
I moved away from my parents right after my twins arrived. They also have a "big sister" who is 13 months older than they.
So, here I was in NJ woth 3 kids under the age of 17 months.
We survived, it made our strong marriage even stronger.

Thanks, that makes me feel good! Part of me is just upset because I know my parents want to be there for us, and it is just a bit more difficult to get to us.

Re: Twin Mom Question-Distance and your parents
I live in NC now and my parents are in Massachusetts, so we are about 12 hours away from eachother! It has been really hard not to have them close by...especially right now (my twins are only a month old). My mom was here for a week and a half after they were born, but since I have been on my own, it is a lot of work. Luckily, my in-laws are moving here in a few weeks, so that will be super helpful! But, not the same as having my own parents here

Re: Twin Mom Question-Distance and your parents
When we found out we were expecting twins( Oct 2009) we knew our small one bedroom COOP could not have handle the twins,so we moved in with my mother- 7 miles away from where our COOP was. My DH went kicking and screaming into my moms house, however, NOW, he has totally changed and whole heartdly agrees that this was the best solution and we could NOT have done it without her. She's in her mid 70's and is awesome!! Believe me, you are going to need an extra set of hands! Its alot, especially in the beginning- and with NO sleep, everything is a blur. My mom was/is great- she made us home cooked meals, did the laudry, will watch the twins if we go to church,or if I want to take a shower shes there. She made it clear to us that shes not going to watch my girls fulltime or for any extended amount of time- 3/4 hours the most. Its just the extxra set of eyes and hands to help out. I would not have been able to breastfeed/pump w/o her help. She also made it clear that shes not running after them when they start to crawl/run, etc. So, right now its a perfect fit.
Its alot in the beginning and having my mom's help was a great comfort for me. We are still living with her, the girls are almost 3 months. The living arrangement is working out well, also she doesnt drive so she wouldnt have been traveling to our house, this is the best arrangement. Good luck, by the way, did u find out the sexes?

Re: Twin Mom Question-Distance and your parents
Three out of four of our parents are deceased and my mother-in-law lives in New Mexico.
I have a few Aunts that are available to help a bit here and there but that's it.
I also have a 3.5 year old and we have a Nanny that has been watching her since she was 3 months old and will be coming to the house 3 days a week when the twins come to help with all 3 kids especially getting my daughter to school twice a week.
My husband works full time 5 days a week and is out of the house about 9 hours out of the day. I will go back to working from home after about 8 weeks of maternity leave.
I'll be home alone with all 3 kids at least 2 days a week probably.
It will be hard, but it will get easier as we get into a scheduled routine.
