two days ago they gave dd raisins at daycare....and now...

she pooped whole raisins tonight in her diaper (and let me tell you whole raisins can absorb water adn they are not pretty....yuck!)....I am so mad...they specifically know that dd is literally a garbage disposal of types when she eats - she is not quite a full chewer yet and we have talked about the fact that anything she eats MUST be cut into small pieces....and they gave her WHOLE RAISINS???? I am so upset...b/c lord knows what else they have given her whole that she could have choked on....

We get a daily log of everything she eats, but dh and I assumed its always cut up small...sure, it is a pain in the a** to do, but she is still learning to chew and doing better but still....

am I overreacting or would you be ticked off too? how should I approach them tomorrow?

I don't think you're overreacting, but raisins are pretty small...so maybe that was their rationale. Anyway, I would mention it to them tomorrow and simply say you'd prefer her not to eat them. Also reiterate your wishes on the food being cut up.

I can understand that you are mad they didn't listen to you. But I don't really understand the whole raisin thing. They aren't that big and it seems like she was ok with it. But this goes against your wishes so you should talk to them about it.

sorry - i should have added....raisins are not that big when you eat them...but when they come out whole the other end, they are (they abosrb water I guess??)...and they seem painful too as dd (who neevr cries when pooping) was screaming.....I guess that is why dh and I were bothered, I mean G*d forbid one got stuck since they swelled up on their way out....

I don't know, maybe I am just overeacting.....Chat Icon

As the above posters have said, I'd been annoyed that with them not following my instructions on feeding but raisins are not a food that I have ever cut up.

How old is your daughter?

Oh Lord, I would have been VERY annoyed Chat Icon Chat Icon

I dont think my boys had raisins till at least age 2. Im off the charts overly ridiculously overboard paranoid with food, so that's just me in my own world Chat Icon

Raisins are a BIg choking hazard in my opinion. Yes they are small, but they are also very hard (well soft, but hard compared to wonder bread, lol), yes I need professional help,lol.... and theyre funky shaped to chew for a baby!. Oh NO NO NO NO NONOOOO. you should definitely say something.

Again, Im a basket case with children and foods, so Im very extreme. you might not want to take my words to heart.

But youre not overreacting Chat Icon

no problem.
go with your gut, it's your child.
I deal with the laughs and everyone telling me what to do when I feed my 1yr old microscopic pieces, but it gives me peace of mind, and it takes us a little longer to eat something, so what ?

Uhm, I take peas out of the baby food jars, and corn too, I dont like the skin..not for my baby. Chat Icon
He does get good chewing pracice for those concerned Chat Icon he's actually a great chewer with finger foods that he feeds himself (pancakes, french toast, wheat bread/cheese, banana cut up, etc)

raisins are not even remotely a thought in my mind for him for at least another year.

I think that by nature Raisins are in small pieces and by nature raisins are a food that go right through you...I mean we all eat corn and we chew it pretty good, however it still comes out whole. I wouldnt be ticked off, however I would mention to them how you felt.

Raisins (imo) are a perfectly reasonable food for young children.
