Ugh, DH left a crappy tip
I am so annoyed. My DH had a school birthday party for my son this weekend and I am still embarassed and miffed that he left the hostess only $10 as a tip. The party was ~$500. We've been arguing and I am debating going back to the establishment to give her more money. She worked so hard and I think she should've gotten more. He says we paid the place a ton of money already. Would you go back or just let it be since it is too late? I HATE when he does this!!

That's terrible and I'd be annoyed if it were my DH also. They say its 20% these days and a fair amount would be $50 to 100$, personally I would've gone back and left her $100. They barely make anything as it is.

Re: Ugh, DH left a crappy tip
While I would not have left $10, I am not giving a $100 tip for a birthday party. I am sorry, she is paid a salary. She is not a waitress, right? If a waitress, I would feel completely different. You are not having a bar mitzvah, right? It was a kid party for 20 kids? $20-25 is enough.

Re: Ugh, DH left a crappy tip
Yes, a kids party where she helped get things set up, helped with cake/pizza. About 20 kids in total. I was thinking at least $50. But if the going rate is $20 then I'd feel a little better (still annoyed though). She was really sweet and worked so hard.

Ugh, DH left a crappy tip
I used to do children’s birthday parties. I can’t speak for other places but I was paid very well for doing them. $20 was about the standard tip. I got $10 a bunch of times. I wouldn’t sweat it.

Re: Ugh, DH left a crappy tip
I would have given her nothing less than $50 for the type of party and the length of kids parties. Tho I am a firm believer of over tipping to make up for the non tippers (I know a lot of people in the service Industry - you’d be shocked)

It's not a wedding. She was doing her job, which she gets paid to do. While I probably would have given her $20 I wouldn't sweat over the $10. I personally hate all the tipping. I wish they just build it into their fees.

Yeah, before I read the responses I thought $30, maybe $40 if she went over the top and out of her way (stayed a little late or something) to help. But it is her job. I know a lot of these people don't get tipped at all so I'm sure any tip was appreciated.

Re: Ugh, DH left a crappy tip
Most party places recommend $20 to each person who helps at the party.

Yeah, that would annoy me too. I dont know if I'd go back to give more money now. But, I would be in control of the tip at the next party. DH didnt tip once at a diner. In his defense, the waiter really was awful. Not new or anything, but super rude. And I still bring up how embarrassed I was.

Re: Ugh, DH left a crappy tip
My sister works parties at a kids birthday place. I wouldn't be too upset. I would have given more, probably at least $20 but I'm sure the girl has moved on and you should too!

I would go back and give more. I think $25 is a good amount if she did exceptional work. I would just say that your husband forgot change that day or something and you appreciated her work..
