UGH! For anyone who has had major surgery
I am a week post op and two days home and I feel like crap. Any words of wisdom as to how long it takes to feel like you have energy again.
I also am a bit anemic so I'm pooped.
Any advice is appreciated.

Re: UGH! For anyone who has had major surgery
When my counts are low and I am anemic I get a shot aresta or something like that. I have gotten it a few times and it has improved my energy level and fixed (albeit temporarily) my RBC...perhaps you can ask your doc? If you need the exact name of the med FM me, I will go look on my paperwork once my IV infusion is done.

Re: UGH! For anyone who has had major surgery
My mom had surgery last Friday too. She has started feeling better since she has started eating solid foods again...She is still weak, and on painkillers, but we had to make a post-op trip to the doctor so she got out a bit. The more she walks (without really pushing it), the better she seems to get. for you! She isn't allowed to drive for a couple weeks but I am going to drive her to the supermarket this weekend so she can practice walking inside.

I'm just starting to get my appetite back and I ate some eggo waffles this morning with a cup of coffee. Right now drinking a vitamin water an took a Flinstone chewable (he he).
Maybe tomorrow I will take a walk with DH up the block. I know that people keep telling me to walk a little each day so I get some strength.
I'm just so down that I can't do even little things without being exhausted.

Re: UGH! For anyone who has had major surgery
My dad had a pretty major, 8 hour surgery back in November. They removed part of his stomach and esophagus. He was in hospital for 2 weeks and came home after that. I would say he felt more like him self at about 6-8 weeks. Not sure what surgery you had, but give it time. Hang in there!

The only thing that really helped for me was sleep and eating light. Unfortunately, the pain killers make you feel sluggish because they usually cause constipation and you feel like a zombie after a while on them. Drink lots of water and definitely keep taking your vitamins. I hope you feel better

Re: UGH! For anyone who has had major surgery
I had some pretty extensive surgery on my elbow last year. I was out of it and feeling pretty lousy for roughly two weeks. I had a lot of swelling too, so that may have added to the discomfort duration.
