ugh severe swelling...
I am supposed to be at parent-teacher conferences right now but my principal sent me home.
I walked around in slippers all day because I literally could not fit my feet into even my husbands sneakers.
I started to get nervous when I started getting numb and had the school nurse check my blood pressure. She said it was a little elevated and to call my Dr. stupid me decides I am fine and does not call.
I DID call on my way home at 430 and they took a message and said someone will call me back. I feel like the skin is going to stretch off my feet and I cant really move ym toes.
I am freaking out that they are going to tell me I cant work. I NEED to make it 2 more weeks till the break for a multitude of reasons.
Ugh.
PS.. I have had swelling since week 20 so I know all the tricks of elevation, no salt, blah blah....

I am so sorry Jen! I hope everything works out for you. Can you try to sit sometimes when you teach? Maybe on a stool or desk or something? I wonder if that will help. I know it isn't the best case scenario but just a thought.

Re: ugh severe swelling...
I've had horrible swelling too. It sucks. My swelling goes down a lot when my feet are elevated above my heart. Of course, I blow up again once I'm on my feet. I'm not thrilled with being on bedrest, but that has helped a lot.
Have you tried compression stockings? My doctor had me order some. They're $$$, but they definitely help control the swelling and improve circulation. Hang in there.

What did your ob say? If they haven't called back, you should call again.

The nurse said to keep them elevated the rest of the night and drink a ton of water. She said that if I cant get shoes on in the am again to call and they will have me come in because it may be time to stop working
I am definitely going to work tomorrow.. it is my work shower and they have been planning it for like EVER. Also, like I said, I really cant leave yet. I have NOTHING together for my leave replacement and they havent even officially hired anyone yet. I have an appointment on Tuesday anyway so we will see.
I KNOW I am being unreasonable and of course the baby and my health is more important than work... but I am just not mentally ready for this yet and I really feel fine so it is frustrating.

Re: ugh severe swelling...
My legs and ankles were so swollen two weeks ago. My dr prescribed compression stockings and it's incredible how much better I'm doing and my legs look so much better. They were $93 but priceless now that I can walk around and fit in my uggs again.

Re: ugh severe swelling...
My friend at work had really bad swelling. Her BP was high too. She kept working and went for a dr. appointment and they told her she had to stop working right then - I don't mean to scare you Jen, but you don't want to mess with that. If you are developing pre-e you have to take care of yourself and your baby. Work will understand, they will be able to get you a sub until the LP can take over. I know its tough. I worked one day, and then was admitted to the hospital that night and told I couldn't go back to work. I was so unprepared, but they understood and did what they had to do to take over my workload.

This is exactly what happened to me. I was taken out of work 1 month early. I was also sent to L&D to be monitored and was then placed on bedrest after I was discharged. I wasn't prepared at all for that. I had another appointment about 1 week later to see if I could go back to work, but my BP was still too high and I was still pretty swollen.
You need to take care of yourself. Your employer will understand.

Re: ugh severe swelling...
Please take it easy. I had bad swelling at 32 weeks (had to have my rings cut off) and I decided to call the doctor and I had very high blood pressure. They put me on bedrest which helped a lot. I also watched what I ate and started on a low sodium diet. It has not been so easy but it has helped so much. Take care of yourself!
