i had something very similar happen i brought it to best buy (thats where i bought it and warrantied it) they ended up having to send it out for service and it will take 2-4 weeks to fix, i had to borrow a computer from a relative
i would maybe have a professional come look at it, hopefully it isn't as bad as mine

I had it too. I researched it and got rid of it, but have no memory of how.

Here is a youtube video on how to remove it.
If you google it, you can find plenty of sites with removal instructions.

The ccleaner just helps clear out the bogus/unused registry entries. You can do it manually instead.
If you don't feel comfortable doing it manually or following any of the instructions on the internet, you should bring it to someone for them to do it. If that's an issue, you can reformat your computer and start over instead.

Re: ugh there is something attacking my computer called Win Antivirus 2008
This happened to me last week. I called Symantics the Norton Anti-virus people and they fixed it for me. It was $100 but they did everything in less than an hour. They did offer me the choice to have them talk me through it but the kids were going crazy so I had them do it. Thankgod I did because watching them get rid of it turned out to be something I would have never been able to do even with them helping me.

My husband got this on his computer... I fixed it relatively easy by restoring his computer to the last back up date that was before the day he downloaded it.
His computer has been running fine since.

If you don't have backups, you can't. You need to have backups taken before the virus attacks. The Windows "System Restore" just restores some of the Windows files (drivers and such), but won't get rid of a virus.
Here are the manual instructions for removing it: http://www.xp-vista.com/spyware-removal/winantivirus-pro-2007-removal-instructions
SpyBot should be able to get rid of it also: www.safer-networking.org/

Re: ugh there is something attacking my computer called Win Antivirus 2008
I got this too last week and it was the worst thing I have ever seen. Usually you can remove this thing on your own but this one I could not at all. I was almost tempted to buy the software! I ended up having to call Dell who I got the computer from 4 years ago and paid $140 (w/tax) but they removed it. Its a total scam its spyware and you think you will pay them to get the "virus" off your computer and meanwhile you are not only giving them $ but they hacked your computer..at least thats what Dell told me. They said they had a lot of calls about this particular virus because it looks like legit software.
Good luck!

I had it a couple of times. I did some research and found a free program to get rid of it. It is very very hard to get rid of. It was everywhere on my computer and took several attempts to remove it but it eventually could be removed.

MY DH had this and it took forever to get rid of it. He basically had to remove everything and start over. Thank goodness he had everything backed up

same here....
and most computers do the backups automatically, so you might get lucky if you didnt set it up to begin with.
