Re: Ugh, weight gain!

Don't feel bad. 6lbs in 4 weeks is about right - you start gaining at a faster rate after your first trimester. I gained more last month alone than you have so far in total! Chat Icon

I put myself on a strict diet right now bc I refuse to gain any more weight this month. I'm forcing myself to eat more fruits and vegetables, no more cakes and cookies (if only they'd keep the cookies OUT of my office!).

Re: Ugh, weight gain!

12 lbs at 22 weeks sounds fine?

Your PG , your gonna gain weight. And you will lose it afterwards.

Dont let something silly like a FEW lbs get you down during this happy time.

as long as you're eating fine, your body is gonna do whatever it needs to do. Try not to stress too much about it.Chat Icon

I didnt really gain much after 30 weeks...all told I wound up gaining,,,36 pounds!!!!!! Just 5 weeks postpartum and I have lost every last one of them! So dont worry,,,I know that I wasnt eating badly and a lot of the weight was blood volume and water retention.

I'm 14 weeks and have gained 12 pounds since August 1st!! I was so nauseas in the beginning eating was the only thing that made me feel better. I'm hoping to slow down the weight gain for the rest of the pregnancy.

Re: Ugh, weight gain!

As my MIL told me, this is the only time when you will add 25-40 lbs to your size and people will be saying how cute you look!!!

I have gained about 25lbs in 28 weeks. I had one 4 week period where I gained about 8lbs. I stopped looking at the scale and decided to embrace the fact that I am only gaining this weight for my baby, and I will deal with it coming off after he/she arrives.

Enjoy your pregnancy and dont let the scale ruin it for you!!!!

PS a friend of mine gained 45 lbs and she just came back to work and you would never know it!!!

Thanks everyone!

I know I shouldn't get too upset about it....I guess I was just shocked b/c I had been gaining at a slower rate previous to this appt.

Re: Ugh, weight gain!

You are not alone with the depression related to the weight gain. I went to the MD at 26 weeks and was thrilled to have only gained 3 lbs in a 6 week period. Then I went again at 28 weeks and had gained 5 lbs which sent me into the same state of depression you are in.

I keep reminding myself that at this stage I should be gaining 1 lb per week and that it is good for the baby. DH telling me everyday I'm beautiful helps too!!!

Re: Ugh, weight gain!

Between my 24 week and 28 week appointment I gained 8 lbs. I was doing so well the entire pregnancy until that point. Then I gained 4 lbs the next month. It's starting to catch up with me.

Don't feel bad though. Just continue to eat well and you'll balance out.

Re: Ugh, weight gain!

I wouldn't worry too much--it sounds as if you have gained a reasonable amount of weight. I can't remember what I weighed at 18 weeks, but I know I gained 12 pounds by the end of the 1st trimester. Then, most of the 2nd trimester I gained much less, so it kind of balanced out. Now in the third, I've been pretty steady at around a pound a week so far.

Yes, there was a week when I gained 4 lbs. in one week! That really shocked me. Most of it was probably water weight though.

If you are eating reasonably and getting some exercise, you should be fine. I know it's hard to gain so much so quickly though.

Re: Ugh, weight gain!

I don't want to be a downer, but when I get upset about weight gain/bloating/ldiscomfort while sleeping/nausea/extra nasal congestion, I start to think about the times when I thought I wouldn't get pregnant and all the BFNs we had gotten while TTC. It sounds very cheesey, but I'm going to try to enjoy every bit of discomfort because it's gotta be worth it in the end...
