UGH!!! what are these companies thinking?!
I just got a call for a job and they told me the highest they're willing to offer for a Mktg manager job is mid $40's!  NO WONDER so many people are moving south! companies there pay better and you can have a brand new HUGE gorgeous house with a fraction of the taxes for $300K or LESS

it's rediculous!!!!!!!! it's not that I am being greedy, I NEED to make a certain amount in order to live here!

That's crazy. I was just saying to DH how gas prices are going up and daily living expenses are too, but salaries don't refelct that. I've seen so many high level intense positions for low salaries - its crazy.

Isn't it ridiculous? My first job out of college I was making in the 50's. I feel like the salaries have gone down.

That's what I've been saying for months now. How can you expect to pay $40k for a marketing manager position and keep people?
It adds insult to injury with the freakin cost of living here!!!! What a slap in the face......

That's definitely an insult - whatever are they thinking?
That salary is more in line with someone who has under 2 years of experience in marketing. Did you tell them to stick the job somewhere else?

 no, but I wanted to. sadly, most of the jobs I have seen in this field are in the same pay range. I don't know how much loger DH and I will be able to stay here. I can't take a job for that low of a salary. I NEED to make more to live here!

I received two offers this week and the salary they intiatially offered was low. It is amazing. I have a degree, years of experience in the field so I know I am not being greedy but still it makes me wonder what is going on.

well if you figure it out, can you please let me know!  there is no reason why someone with tons of experience on LONG ISLAND should be seeing mid 40's in that field! that is a college graduate salary these days IMO!

Were you guys asked what your salary expectations are when you interviewed?
I was asked during half of my interviews and I think answering the question really hurts more than helps.
Just remember employers will try to pay you as little as they can, you have to negotiate with them. Don't be afraid to tell them you make more in your last job OR even that you got another offer so they will try to match it.

every interview i have been they ask what i made at my last job. how do you not answer a Q like that. I HATE that they ask it, but what can you do?
