ughhhh I tell ya these collection agency thinks they can pull one over me...NOT!!!

I just told off a lady( The collection agency for a doctors bill. I told her I am not going to pay$255.00 because my union already paid for it and they had a check # that said it was paid for and there is NO reason why i should be getting this in the mail I said I dont need this now i am getting a house and i Dont need this to hurt my credit she said relax i said No i dont want to get another paper in the mail saying that i owe this money when i dont have too.than she said it wont hurt my credit and i dont need to get no attorney and she was going to take care of it. than i was ok and said bye. Oh I am sooo ******!

I think the point where she said "RELAX"...I would have jumped through the phone and strangled her!

I totally understand your frustration.

It seems that more and more DH and I are dealing with billings from the doctors. What frustrates me more is that I pay a lot for my health insurance and I show the office the healthcare card each and everytime...yet many of them seem to have this routine where either before they submit the documents to the health insurance or simultaneously as they submit it to the insurance they generate a bill and send it me as well. Ugghhhh. Fortunately I have never paid one of these bills but I'd hate to think of the hard time I'd have getting my money back once the insurance actually paid.

Thanks, Ro. Ya know- some people actually work in that field.

and what she was telling you was the truth- 99% of the time, it wont affect your credit at all, and she may be able to do something to help you resolve it. I can guarantee you she wasn't trying to "Pull a fast one on you"- those bills are automatically generated when your insurance company hasnt paid in a timely manner (i.e 4-6 weeks). Your insurance company may have a check # and all- that doesnt mean that they actually sent it to the doctor.

Thanks guys! I had the proof for them and i gave them the check number they called my union and they talked to them it was suppose to be resolved it was OUT of my hands and they said if i dont call you back which they DID NOT it was resolved and today i get this in the mail Sorry guys I am not wrong!

ETA: Neenie If you work for a collecting agency I am sorry but i was not talking about you i am just saying in general if they tell you its all taken care of they shoud not be calling you again after a YEAR! SO please dont take offense.

I had this issue a while back. What you need to do is first send them a letter that says you dispute the debt (you need to do this within 30 days). By law they have to leave you alone while they go and check the validity of the debt - this will give you time to call the Dr's office and work it out and have them call the credit office off your back. After sending the letter I never heard back from any of them b/c the dr's office realized their mistake and made the correction.

If you write the letter to the company disputing the debt it cannot go on your credit report (but I think someone above said it does not usually go right onto your report anyway)

Ro- You need more than a check number (a umber doesn't prove anything, I could give you a check number right now), ask the company that cut the check to send you proof that the check cleared! Then once you have that this should be resolved in seconds flat!

this happened to me over an old att wireless act at work....i had to fax them a copy of the cc statement showing I paid it and six months later they came after me again....so frustrating, i screamed, yelled, re faxed them, etc...and it finally went away.....ergh....
