Re: Ultrascreen results
its a personal decision you and your DH have to make. i don't think i would, especially since the dr. believes its becuase they couldn't get accurate measurements.

Re: Ultrascreen results
how do YOU feel about the possibilty?
I think 1 in 300 is still a rarirty and good odds that nothing is wrong with the baby. How old are you?
If you feel that you cant wait till the end of the Pregnancy to know..or your of advanced age....then I would have the amnio.
I wouldnt personally because the risks are too high and the odds you quoted mean more then likely your baby is fine. BUT it all depends on how you will be able to cope.
So soory though. Hang in there

Re: Ultrascreen results
I'm so sorry you are going through this. Just remember this is a screening test. It's only giving you odds. If you feel that you will be thinking about this for the rest of the pregnancy, investigate the amnio -- it may give you peace of mind.

Re: Ultrascreen results
You need to do whatever is going to make you comfortable. A few things to think about...If your baby does have Downs will that change anything for you? (terminating pregnancy, making different arrangements for once the baby is born, etc.) My mom was 39 when she had me and her dr insisted she had an amnio and she refused. I was fine. Another girl I work with had it and almost lost the baby. Not to mention the results can be wrong also! I wouldn't worry though sweetie.

Re: Ultrascreen results
I had the same thing happen to me but my chances were 1 in 133 chance of Downs. It is a very personal choice but since my chances of having a baby with downs was higher than the m/c chance, we decided to have the amnio.

Re: Ultrascreen results
Honestly, i think the drs in the wrong for giving statistics out scaring you like this when he clearly states the baby was not cooperative during the evaluation. What I would do first is get re-evaluated...if they think there is still 1/300 chance...me....I would do the amnio...BUT thats such a personal decision only made by you and dh.

Re: Ultrascreen results
Well, I am glad you got better news--I know how scary it can be! In fact, if you want to look on the bright side of things, your original risk was .002% chance and then it only rose to .003%. Also 1:300 according to my book is about the normal risk for any 34 year old woman--many of us are around that age right now. Hopefully that puts it in perspective. Of course, there really is no *perspective* when it comes to your baby! I would not have gotten an amnio with those results as the risk of something going wrong with that procedure would have been higher than the risk of Down's. I wish you continued good health!!
