ultrasound in first trimester
Hi I'm new on here - was on liweddings alot but havent in awhile.
Anyway, I am 10 weeks pregnant and am due Feb 22. :)
Just curious about ultrasounds. My sister in law is also preggo but lives in Florida and was surprised that I had my first one (transvaginal) last week at 9 weeks (saw the heartbeat too!). She said it wasnt safe in the 1st trimester so now I'm all worried. She is 16 weeks and is just having one now.
Did everyone have them and how many did you have ultimately?

Re: ultrasound in first trimester
there have been NO studies to prove any adverse affects to a fetus from ultrasounds. I don't know where she got her info....I had my first at 7.5 weeks!
Ask your doctor the next time you see them. The only thing your doctor might advise against is the "Store front" sono places since they are not medical professionals.

Re: ultrasound in first trimester
CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who told her it wasn't safe?? I have never heard of such a thing Docs usually give you a sonogram at around 8-9 weeks to make sure that there is a heartbeat and to see if the PG is viable. I had one at 8 weeks (also vaginally) and we saw the babe's heartbeat and then another at 13 weeks so they could measure the baby.

Re: ultrasound in first trimester
Congrats. I had my first ultrasound at 5 1/2 weeks. My Dr wanted to stay on top of my PG from the beginning.

Re: ultrasound in first trimester
congrats on seeing the heartbeat! i wish i could have an ultrasound in my 1st trimester. my doctor doesn't do one until later unless there is some kind of problem. i won't get my 1st until 13 weeks. i just wish i could have one to reassure me that everything is okay.

Re: ultrasound in first trimester
Thanks everyone!!
My sister in law in 1.5 months ahead of me - she lives in Fla so maybe the doctors there are different? But she was telling me that she read and was also told by her mother in law who is a maternity nurse that they are not common in 1st trimester because they arent safe and they are not usually done unless there are complications which really upset me. So I was just checking around - I know my sister had one done in 1st T and other people I know too....
Here's to a Happy and Healthy 9 for everyone on here!
