Ultrasound Techs?
Anyone out there an ultrasound tech? Tell me about the schooling. Can you do the program part time?
How long did it take you to find a job? What is the pay like (if you dont mind sharing)
TIA

Re: Ultrasound Techs?
I am actually considering switching to this field as well. Which program were you looking into? From what I hear, it's a great career and the program is usually around 2 years depending on if you have the pre-req's needed. If not, it would take longer which would be my case since I am missing anatomy 1 and 2.

Re: Ultrasound Techs?
Just looking into schools now. But my major concern is: is this possible for me to do while still working full time and with an 18 month old.
What have you found out so far?

Re: Ultrasound Techs?
This is my concern as well. I can not afford to not work full time while going to school with a mortgage and all those other fun bills. I have only looked into the Northport Boces program so far and that is a full time, Mon- Fri, 8-4 program so I wouldn't be able to do that. I have heard not to go to Sanford Brown Institute because after that program, you still need to obtain additional credits and classes to even sit for the certification and a lot of people seem to have difficulties finding a job. Not sure how true that is but in researching online, it seems to be. If I find anything else out, I will keep you posted but from what I am seeing and reading online, completing this program and working full time but not work for me.

Re: Ultrasound Techs?
What about SCC??? I'm also looking into this now. Its so hard to find a secure in demand job while raising children and trying to pay bills. I was looking at LPN but seems to be getting phased out. Medical Coding is only a semester but seems everywhere only hires with experience.

Coding can be tough to break into but there are a ton of WAH opportunities once you get experience. Best you can do for coding is find a place that offers externships and job placement guarantees. If you become a code though, you can always do Medical billing too.
I've been doing billing/coding since 1995. I'm done, burnt out, toasted. I'm starting school this semester to get some prereqs out of the way and going back for hopefully respiratory therapy.
Other things to consider if you want medical Phlebotomy Medical Assisitant Polysomnography Respiratory Therapist. EKG/EEG tech XRay tech.

Re: Ultrasound Techs?
Thank you for the informative response!! I noticed BOCES had a program and it is only one semester. I know in the longrun nursing is the best option but I need to earn a living in the meantime.

Re: Ultrasound Techs?
If you really want to go towards nursing, most phlebotomy courses are only a few weeks long, that would be a better jumping point to RN than coding.
