Ultrasound weeks versus actual weeks
I hope you can follow this because I am looking for some help to stay sane.. Ok... I am so confused with how far along I am as well as the results of the ultrasound I just had. By my LMP I should be 8 weeks. I usually had a 35 day cycle, so with that the computer says I should be 7 weeks. I had to go for an ultrasound last Friday due to some wierd backpain and at that time they said 6 w 2 d and no heartbeat. I went back today, and was happy to see there was a heartbeat but I am still 6 w 2d. My 3 questions.... Should I be concerned that there was no change in growth even though i now have a heartbeat? Did your ultrasound have you at less weeks than you thought? and finally would you say I am 7 or 8 weeks? Any insight would be great. Thanks

Re: Ultrasound weeks versus actual weeks
I'm not sure of the answer. But, do you know exactly when you ovulated? Just because you normally have a 35 day cycle, doesn't mean you definitely ovulated halfway through. Maybe you are what your ultrasound says and there is no reason to worry.

Re: Ultrasound weeks versus actual weeks
What was the actual date of the first day of your LMP? That is what they use to determine how far along you are. I wouldn't worry what the ultrasound is saying. My doc said they don't change your due date unless there is more than a 2 week difference between the ultrasound date and the calculated date.

I think many Drs will go by the ultrasound date, because many women do not know when they ovulated. My dr did change my due date after the first ultra sound because they say that is the most accurate at determining how far along you actually are.
I wouldnt worry too much. If there was a visable heartbeat that is a GREAT thing!

Re: Ultrasound weeks versus actual weeks
I did not get any "dating" until my Level II. The day I had it, based on LMP I was 20w1d. Every measurement they took showed growth to be between 19w5d and 20w3d.

Re: Ultrasound weeks versus actual weeks
Im always less weeks than LMP...my cycles vary but with each pregnancy I was less pregnant by 2-3 weeks..The heart starts beating at an exact time in gestation so if there wasnt a heartbeat one week..but one the next...you know about how pregnant you are..b/c at 6 weeks there should of been a heartbeat at the 1st sonogram, b/c there wasnt BUT there is now it means you are less than originally thought. I hope that makes sense..DS is crying and Im typing with one hand.

Re: Ultrasound weeks versus actual weeks
Thanks for all of your advice. I really think i am stressing myself out over everything. my mother keeps telling me when I was born there were no sonograms like this and that I should just be happy to be pregnant. I really have to try to get that to sink in and take it one day at a time....

Re: Ultrasound weeks versus actual weeks
My understanding is that they use LMP to guestimate your due date before you have a sono but adjust it according to your first sono. My friend just learned she is pregnant 2 days ago. Her LMP was 8/24 but she didn't ovulated until about 9/22 - so she knows she's closer to just 4 wks rather than 6.

Re: Ultrasound weeks versus actual weeks
I had a similar situation at my first sono on Friday. According to the sono, I'm measuring 6 weeks, but I know EXACTLY when I ovulated/conceived (8/31) - according to that and my LMP (8/16), I'm 7 weeks.
I think with longer than average cycles (mine are 31 days on average), it pushes things back a bit.
It drives me crazy too, but don't stress, its all fine.
