As to the engagement... convicted serial killers have female groupies.. this totally isn't a surprise.

my guess is that she's believing in his innocence rather than getting off on his guilt...but what the hell do I know

I should have put an 'even' in there. 
I agree that she either thinks he's innocent OR she thinks he's guilty and she can change him. He may be a serial wife murderer - but she's so special he's gonna love her most of all and become a good man. I can only hope she's right... cause being wrong may prove deadly.
