Umm so my 10 month old does NOT feed himself..
He is walking...but hasnt figured out how to pick up the food and put it in his mouth.
He will grab it, squish it in his hands and throw it on the floor.
Shouldn't he be self-feeding? How do I get that to happen? My mom said to walk away and when he is hungry enough he'll figure it out. Hasn't worked so far...
Any advice? He also doesn't use the sippy cup. I want him off a bottle by 1!

I don't think Juliette did either...we didn't sippy cup completely until 18 months-she would take juice but not milk in a cup. I agree about leaving foods out, she will figure it out. I remember eating puffs-which were gross-and having her stare at me watching me put them in my mouth. I think that sort of helped. She was probably 11 months at the time.

Does he have the chance to see other kids feedling themselves? Noah didn't feed himself by 1 year, but the first day at nursery (at a year old) he came home and fed himself with a spoon.
All kids do different things at different ages, don't rush it.

No, I am home with him so we are around kids only a small amount of time and it's only for a playgroup so they don't really eat there.
I just get frustrated bc I know he can do it, but he just would rather i feed him, lol. He will sit there for an hour staring at the food or throwing it before he would put it in his piehole, lol...
It's not that I necessarily want to rush him..its more that i really think he should be doing it by now, you know? I'll be patient though!

My son is 1 and just starting to really get self feeding down. Don't worry, she'll get it. Some kids are more relaxed about learning things than others. 
As far as the bottle/sippy thing, my ped says that when you want to move to sippys, just go cold turkey. They may refuse for a day or 2, but they will get thirsty and will start to drink from the sippy if it's the only option they have. He said they can't get dehydrated that fast.

My son just started this week to self feed cheerioes/gerber puffs/small pieces of pancakes. He gets about half in his mouth and the other half in the high chair. He was 10 mos yesterday. Also he has not interst in a sippy cup. My older son was off the bottle at 14 mos.

DS is 11 months old and just started feeding himself. Also, he wants nothing to do with the sippy cup. He will drink out of the glass if I am holding it but wants nothing to do with the sippy.
