Ummmm...yeah, sterile cup...for sperm analysis...
Where would one procure one of these? CVS?
DH is doing one of these next week, and luckily for him, you can do it at home and drop the...uh, sample...off.
I'm the type that freaks if anyone even sees me buying an HPT, so sterile cup? Yeah, not my thing. Do they have them out in the open or do you have to ask at the counter?
Anyone know?

I'm actually not sure firsthand but perhaps you can call the pharmacy section of CVS and see what they say. They might be more knowledgeable about that kind of thing than just someone at the register.
ETA: I totally agree with doing it at home! Glad he has that option!!

Dh went to Quest, which is where he was dropping off the sample, a few days before and picked one up from them. I would assume any lab that you will be dropping the sample off at should have the containers for you.

Re: Ummmm...yeah, sterile cup...for sperm analysis...
I can tell you what NOT to do. DON'T take a giant pickle jar, clean it out, boil it to sterilize, put the sample in there, drive it from all the way out east to Syosset, and expect a good result!!
Yes, back years ago when they told us to drop a sample off they said use a sterile "jar". In my young, naive state I made a sterile "jar" from a pickle jar thinking it would be just fine. Such an idiot!! Needless to say we repeated the whole thing with a REAL sterile cup and everything turned out fine.
P.S. - Just ask your doctors office for one. It's a little plastic cup, I always got them from my OB/GYN and RE.

to the OP - your dr, or the lab can definitely give you one and you dont' have to pay for it

Re: Ummmm...yeah, sterile cup...for sperm analysis...
When DH had to do a SA my ob/gyn gave me a sterile cup along with the directions for collecting and dropping off the specimen (when I say directions i mean time constraints, not how to obtain the sample )

It was an experience for sure! Poor DH........he was so upset when he saw the "finished sample". One giant pickle jar does not help to make a man feel proud of his boys!!

Yes!! And the fact that it was a "giant" pickle jar makes it all the funnier!!
Thanks for the laugh! Even though there's not much humor when you're having trouble conceiving, I must say DH and I have been absolutely rolling at the thought of this test--it's a comedic goldmine! Directly after we saw the doctor DH said to me, "Well, I guess you're back to the bloodwork..." Because I had a ton of bloodwork after the m/c. I replied, "Uhhh...yeah, I'd rather get the bloodwork than..."
And then he told me *I* was responsible for getting the cup because "this is just so invasive and embarassing already." Ummmm...whaaaaa???? Talk to me when YOU'RE in the stirrups!

Our RE gave one to DH and he did his "thing" at home. Not sure if CVS would have it.

Re: Ummmm...yeah, sterile cup...for sperm analysis...
Going through the same thing...I was actually looking at CVS online the other day for this, didn't see any though. I too am VERY embarrassed buying HPT tests, I'll be wearing a mask as I walk up to buy a sterile cup!
OMG Hofstra, that is hysterical!!

I think you can get them at CVS but any MD office should have one. ALSO I was told that when you bring it in to keep it wrapped in foil and close to your body so that it mimics its origin. In this weather its not good to have them in the open.

Again.........yet another mistake I made with the infamous pickle jar. I had it sitting on the seat next to me because of course I had no clue and I was on the phone with my DH the whole time freaking out because the "sample" was doing all sorts of weird things. Pretty much what I left the house with was NOT what I submitted to the lab. Poor little guys were flipping and flopping and dying out in that stupid jar.
So ITA with the above poster........keep it warm. A lot of women actually tuck it in their bra in between the "girls". Nice and warm in there.
And in case you're all wondering..........I swear on a stack of bibles I could not make this stuff up. Every word from the pickle jar forward is 100% true. I had NO clue what I was doing all those years ago and that whole experience was a disaster from beginning to end. Crazy!!

Re: Ummmm...yeah, sterile cup...for sperm analysis...
I don't know where you are located, but there is a place called Mid Island Medical Supply on Wantagh Ave. in Wantagh (between Sunrise Hwy & Merrick rd) They sell the specimen cups for about $1.99 each. CVS wanted $4.95 for ONE!
