Unemployment gives Visa cards now???
A friend of ours is on unemployment, and apparantly, the new thing is not sending out checks, but Visa "gift cards" that accumulate a new balance every week.
Has it gone down to NY wanting to know what you spend your f'n money on??????
I think thats such BS!!!
Please tell me if you have heard of this? I still dont beleive it. I would think there is an option to choose check or gift card.

Not sure if RI is the same as NY. Out here in Ri, they have started doing direct deposit. But, if you do not have an account, you can opt to get a "credit card" that they put your money onto.

It's true, but I don't know the reason. I do know that you can go to the bank and transfer the balance into your account each week, though.

yea its actually so much better than getting a check. the money goes in quick and you can use it for purchases at the store.

i had it and wasnt happy with it had to pay a fee to take the money out at a non chase atm and i didnt use the money for groceres or to buy things wantedto put it into a savings account for when we needed it. they looked at me cross eyed when i went to chase to get the money

I think WIC and food stamps are this way now too....my receptionist (yes, the lawyers are so cheap that the poor girl has to use food stamps) told me that.

Food stamps are on an ebt card. It is like a debit card but I think that food stamps and unemployment are different.
food stamps should be used for food. Unemployment should be used to help pay mortgage/rent and buy other things not just food.
I don't think it's right that you have to go to Chase to get your money and then drive to your bank just so you can pay bills.
