Unexplainable renal failure in a 6 year old cat?
One of our cats has just been diagnosed with renal failure. he is only 6 years old and up until a few days ago showed no signs of being sick. they said he probably wont make it thru the night has anyone ever experienced anything like this? i wanna know what caused it but the dr has no idea so i wanted to see what everyone over here thinks. im worried that its something contagious or maybe a toxin caused it, our neighbors hate the cats and i wouldnt put it pass them to do something sick like that.

OMG I am so sorry to hear that. I know that toxins can cause renal failure. I am praying for a miracle for your little one

Re: Unexplainable renal failure in a 6 year old cat?
Some animals just have a shorter life. I remember a vet once saying to me a cat could live to 30 but an organ would eventually fail. I took on a special needs kitty with a congenital heart defect who is only expected to live about 5 - 8 years. He started medication at 4 months & will be on it his whole life. My vet mentioned that at least it was good that it was detected and he could start medication because many times a cat may have a minor defect that is undetected and dies suddenly at 5 years and it seems like it came out of nowhere but it could have just been a small congenital defect that was undetected because it wasn't severe. I am so sorry you are going through this. I unfortunately have to deal with a lot of losses working with the feral cats I manage & I always just try to focus on the time I had them, not the time I missed out on because I lost them young

thanks, i was thinking the same thing. fh found the cat in a junk yard when he was a kitten and took him home. we have no idea who his parents were, im thinking they could have been brother and sister or something which makes the risk higher for congetive defects.

I'm so sorry. I hope it wasn't the neighbors. Before I was born, my parents' neighbor stole their dog from their yard and poisoned him, and brought him back to the doorstep! It was the only time my mom saw my dad cry.

i hope it wasnt the neighbors either cuz we still have 2 other cats that go out. they specifically hated this cat because he use to walk on thier bmw maybe im being nieve but id like to think that they arent sick enough to do something like that. they have a bunch of animals themselfs and i just cant belive someone could do that. i made sure mil asked the vet if it was a possibility and he said it could have been but it also could have been something he was born with it so i guess we will never know
