I am for it, for many reasons. You should not be denied health care just because they can not afford it. The US is soooo far behind the most of the world when it comes to this issue.

I totally agree. DH and I have seriously spoken about moving to Canada, this being one of the reasons. To me it just makes sense. Everyone needs healthcare!!

Re: Universal Healthcare..For it or Against it??
I think there are a lot of things related to this issue that need to be fixed.
Part of the reason Dr.s and lawyers cost so much is because of the rediculous amount of money it costs them to be educated. And, a great portion of that "education" has nothing to do with their profession...
But, guess who gets overcharged so their doctors and lawyers can pay back those debts and maintain their livelihoods?

Another reason they charge so much is to cover malpractice insurance, which is insanely expensive.

Re: Universal Healthcare..For it or Against it??
Last year I had to conduct research on Universal health care and what I have found is amazing.
Let me preface by saying that in the United States you are not denied health care. Medicaid is a much more comprehensive health care program than what I have as a teacher.
Universal Health care has bankrupted Canada three times. Cancer patients in Ireland have to wait on a list for Chemotherapy. That just seems insane for to me.
The health care system in America may not be the best, but it is one of the few that treats people who aren't citizens. Any public hospital must treat any patient and in NYC the public hospitals tend to be the best because they treat the largest amount of traumas.

It seems like a good idea, but I haven't heard about it being implemented sucessfully anywhere. So I am against it.

Exactly, until there is a way to do it that doesn't bankrupt the country or skimp on certain procedures, then it is not an effective form of health care. And, it is true that you cannot be denied emergency care in the US, I know for a fact because my sister is a drug addict with no insurance and she has been in and out of the hospital a few times.

Well said. I DO agree that the US insurance system needs to be completely reformed, But healthcare IS available to everyone- regardless of if they have insurance OR a way to pay for it (its the aftermath though- of when they get those bills that needs some changing though), but i dont think Universal Healthcare is the solution
