University OBGYN
does anyone use/ have used this practice for their OB visits? I've been going here for years for my GYN visits but I'm apprehensive about having "students" potentially be seeing me and delivering any future babies. Obv I didn't think of this when I started going here. Does anyone have any positives or negatives? I'm seriously considering switching to another practice. Thanks.

They always asked before a student came in the room or did anything. They were very respectful and didn't push anything. It wasn't a big deal to me. I always said it was ok because they need to learn somehow, but just say no if you're uncomfortable. They asked if a student could watch during delivery, but they didn't assist at all, just watched.
ETA... Just realized there might be more than one university obgyn but I was referring to SB.

Yes, I was referring to SB. The office on Tech Drive in Setauket to be exact. It came up because my girlfriend gave birth on Friday and she uses a different practice. Her doc allows for epis at the mothers request regardless of "progression". Hes very much on the side of the mother, and my friend was very involved with the whole process. Ive heard stories where people have said that the doctor dictated their whole pregnancy and delivery and I dont really want that. I just want to make sure that I will be comfortable with my experience with them..

Well, I went to that office but I dealt with the midwives, not the doctors practice so I'm not really sure if it's different. But like I said, the midwives would always check with me before a student came in and would ask if they could feel my belly, look, etc.

Same experience here. I think a student came in once or twice during a visit and only as an observer. In the hospital, they also observed during labor and afterward. They always ask if it's ok. I never had a problem with it nor did it affect the care I received.
