Update after speaking with RE

So I just turned 39 and I know I have to be grateful for any embryos I get.

After my genetic testing of 7 embies I just found out I have three normal frozen embies.

This office is not good at giving me info and I find it very frustrating. Like I had 7 embies. 3 froze. Were the others arrested or abnormal? What is the quality of the frozen....3 cell, blastocysts?

Am I abnormal for wanting to know that? I think he functions differently than my last dr?

Sad I only have three. I hope one survives the thaw.

Update:
He just called. Three made it to blastocyst. I now understand that they let them go to day five, and the haven't had Genetic testing yet. They are graded c/c. Not the best he said. Cells were sent to genetics lab but are being held until I decided what to do.

I asked him for advice. he recommended batching them and doing another fresh cycle to get more embryos to test. Making the most of the money I am spending for the testing. I always knew that was a possibility so I was prepared for that.

So.... I'll do one more fresh. He will tweak the protocol to get more eggs and hopefully more embryos.

IVF #2 will start soon then.

Please try and stay positive. You still have three! Hold onto that. Good luck to you and keep us updated. Chat Icon Chat Icon And no you are not abnormal for wanting to know, you have every right to know!

Re: Ok.... Help me feel positive

At my 29 year old retrieval I got exactly the same as you! (Only, we transfered two for a fresh and froze 1) but yes, first we had 7, and then there were 3.

When we spoke to the people from reprogenetics they said in a healthy 21 year old egg donor, they expect HALF of the eggs to be genetically normal. So, 3 is basically half..... I'd say you did pretty well for yourself. Chat Icon

Only positive thoughts from here on out!!

Eta: .... and to answer the rest of your questions, there's nothing abnormal about wanting more info! This is where mommyhood begins! If you have questions for your RE, ask them!

Also I assume they were frozen through vitrification which is what most modern labs are doing now. If the quality is good, and they were vitrified, more likely than not they will survive the thaw.

You're not crazy for wanting the extra info. I asked my nurse for the specifics of the abnormal ones and the grading of the normal ones. I also had half that were abnormal. 3/7 is really good! Hugs to you!

Re: Ok.... Help me feel positive

half to a little more than half of the embryos in IVF will be abnormal, or so thats what I keep reading. so I think 3 is pretty freaking good Chat Icon

Ok.... Help me feel positive

I think 3 normal embryos is great.

My first IVF at 28 I had 28 retrieved..18 fertilized. 2 made it to blast and were transferred the rest died..none left to freeze.

I don't blame you for wanting more info and I would absolutely ask. Also FWIW I did a little research on frozen embies and it seems that the way that they freeze them now makes a FET almost as successful as a fresh transfer. Some doctors seem to think it's better to freeze because it gives your body time to calm down from all the hormones that way when you do your FET, your body is more receptive.

Good luck!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

At 32 I had 0 make it to blasts, so I think your numbers sound pretty good!

Good luck on your next cycle!

I think its the right decision to do one more cycle and batch them.

Just a thought, did you think of adding HGH? I added it to my 3rd and finally successful IVF.

3 is good out of 7! For my successful cycle at 32, I had 15 fertilize, and a bunch make it to day 5. In the end I had 2 to transfer and 1 to freeze. Its shocking how many don't meet the criteria.

I hope your next cycle gets you some good quality embyos!
