UPDATE (ANOTHER ONE)...DS has been a little fussy today...
Maybe it's the cereal. He's starting to spit up again. I called the doctor's office and asked if I should be giving the cereal first then the milk. They said do the cereal first. I'll try it that way.
He's been crying like hell today at nap time. Usually he doesn't. Oh and he's been passing a lot of gas and burping on his own. He does burp once during his bottle and then at the end. When I give him the cereal. Do I have to burp him in between?
Maybe something is bothering him. I guess his body has to get used to the cereal?

This just started now right after starting the cereal. I'm going to give it 2 more days and then call the doctor again.
Maybe it's the milk. I tried the good start one where you have to add water. See this is why I hate doing the milk myself. Any little mistake that you are unaware can make your baby sick...

Re: DS has been a little fussy today...
Sorry I missed your call. I was dealing with the fussy one. He screamed his head off when I was trying to get him down for a nap. He was tired and rubbing his eyes and fighting it at the same time. Bedtime should be fun tonight...
I wanted to burp in between the bottle feeding but he wouldn't let me. I took the bottle away to burp him and he started crying. I just tried to give him water and he was not having it...

Re: DS has been a little fussy today...
maybe the change in formula and the addition of the cereal all at once is too much for his little system to handle. Also, cereal can constipate them.

Re: DS has been a little fussy today...
Could the problem be the way the Cereal is made? It's more watery than creamy.
I am going to give it one more day and see what the doc says...
I was so looking forward to starting solids and so far it's been a nightmare for poor DS...
He's tired, rubs his eyes but can't go to sleep. I feel so helpless.

Re: DS has been a little fussy today...
his body is probably trying to adjust to the cereal.
i know i was told that for the first couple of days to have it a little more watery - so they can get used to it - and then gradually make it less watery

If the cereal is bothering him, I definitely would NOT make it thicker.

I'm adding about an ounce of milk to the 1 tbsp of cereal, is that ok?

Re: DS has been a little fussy today...
What kind of cereal are you giving him? I gave Ava rice cereal and it did not agree with her. I started her on oatmeal after that and she's doing great. I just think that if you changed both his formula and added cereal at the same time that it's probably going to take some time for his body to adjust. Like I said, cereal can constipate them. My dr. told me to give her a couple of ounces of water everyday to counteract that. So far, so good.

I do a little more than an ounce of formula - I don't measure it so I can't tell you.

Re: DS has been a little fussy today...
Are you using the formula he is used to?
ETA: just reread the post. Why are you changing formula at the same time you are starting cereal? Is this something the doctor recommended? Maybe his tummy can't handle both changes at the same time.

Re: DS has been a little fussy today...
It's still the goodstart formula that I have been using. Is there really a difference whether it's powder or the concentrated liquid where you add water?

Re: UPDATE...DS has been a little fussy today...
I gave him a bath last time and I was really dreading putting him to bed because of the way he was feeling.
At around 10 to 6 he fell asleep after crying his eyes out, and slept for just about 2 hours. Then he got up around 10 to 8, Had a bottle, got a bath, DH read to him and thank God he didn't go to bed screaming crying. Just a little crying and he fell asleep.
This morning he woke up in a good mood. He didn't want the cereal because he's use to getting his bottle first and he was getting frustrated because he wanted to suck on his bottle and not the spoon. He was hungry and when he's hungry he wants his bottle right away.
Let's see how the rest of the day goes. I think I may do cereal once a day. **** that, i'm gonna start off slow. Poor thing has been suffering.
I've also been giving the mylicon drops as well.

Re: UPDATE...DS has been a little fussy today...
Does switching from RTF, powder and using concentrated liquid really make a difference if you are using the same brand?

I know that some babies on here do better on the RTF as opposed to the powder because when you shake it you get more gas bubbles. I have been switching it up between RTF and powder from when I started formula around 7 weeks and he has no problem going from one to the other. But I would think that the concentrated liquid and RTF would be the same because you can stir you don't necessarly need to shake it.

I shook it. We found the RTF and I am back on that. I told DH I am sticking with that and that's it. I don't care if I have to go to Alaska to find the Goodstart milk.

DS system can't handle the powder... When I gave him powdered formula he was VERY gassy... So now I only use RTF

Now that I think about it, the last time I used powder he was gassy and seemed like he was spitting up more than usual. That was 3 weeks ago when he had that week where he was crying during the feedings cuz he was gassy. Then we went back to RTF and he was taking his bottle again.

Re: UPDATE...DS has been a little fussy today...
I think DS is starting his fussiness with the cereal again. Yesterday was better and today it looks as if it's starting again. I have to see how the rest of the day goes.
Sould I just discontinue the cereal and let the doctor know about it?
