UPDATE: cup cake pros - i have a question...
i wanted to do something like this for DD's birthday but realistically it just aint gonna happen...my question is, how does one get the swirl under the flower done, specifically what kind of tip do i need to use?
i am cake/cup cake decorating challenged to say the least
thanks!
update...
so i gave it my best shot, learned some lessons in the process (need more practice and different icing)...far from the inspirational piece, but i think cute enough for DD to take to school tomorrow

I have no idea but "Shellybean" makes beautiful cupcakes. Maybe she can offer you some advise/tips if you FM her.

It's really not very difficult! Just be patient and confident! And make sure your icing isn't too stiff. Use any star tip and swirl it around. I usually practice before I work on the actual cupcake, just in case I mess it up! But, the beauty of cupcakes is that even if you do mess it up, you can easily scrape it off (carefully) and start over!

Re: cup cake pros - i have a question...
Use the large star tip on your icing press (or bag).
Press down gently, squirt, pull up gently...viola...swirl!
As for the candy flower, try hitting up a chocolate making shop. They sell them.
