UPDATE: Disney--Hot vs Crowded? Hot!

We are debating whether to go to DW the end of August or during February break. We went last September and I found the heat unbearable. However, I keep getting feedback that the crowds are unbelievably insane during February break--there are also no discounts and the flights are almost booked already and those that aren't are $$$! Also, there's a free dining offer for August and the flights are so much cheaper. I don't know what to do--I hate wall to wall crowds AND heat! But it's no longer feasible to pull my DD out of school so we can go at lower crowd /cooler times of the year. What would you do?

I always go end of Aug - and yes it’s hot BUT crowds are manageable. So I’d rather take the heat over crowds. We just took a lot of breaks from the heat, went back to hotel to rest, etc.

I would do August for sure. Less money/less people is always better than more expensive/more people in my book, even in the heat.

It's not insanely crowded on February break once you get past President's Day. Presidents weekend (Friday/Sat/Sun/Mon) is when it's insane. We have been several times after Monday that week and it's doable.

Yes we’ve been as well. Not everyone has that week off - we are in Rockland County and only have off Monday and Tuesday of that week.

I would rather walk on the surface of the sun than deal with crazy crowds so that's my answer! Chat Icon

Disney--Hot vs Crowded?

Can anyone recommend any hats, neck wraps, etc that have, like cold packs or something built into them? Or any good heat gear? I was definitely an Eskimo in a past life.

I have never used but a lot of people on disney pages I follow recommend Frog Togg cooling towels. If you are bringing a stroller everyone says to bring stroller fans.

All quick service restaurants give free cups of ice water.

Re: Disney--Hot vs Crowded?

I pick hot over crowded. I hate Disney crowds. I don't go to Magic Kingdom on Saturdays because I hate crowds.

You can manage the heat by taking breaks and going back your hotel in the middle of the day, or booking a sit down restaurant for 1:00 lunch, but you can't stop the throngs of people from bumping into you, or stepping on your feet, or shorten the wait times to see characters or get on rides.

This exactly. We've done Disney/Universal during this week 4 or 5 times. It's crowded but not totally insane. And the weather is usually perfect - high of around 80, very little rain and humidity. I have no interest in going any other time.

Jetblue hasn't released fares for that time but they probably will soon. One year - when we planned in advance enough - I booked the minute they released the fares and got an airfare that I didn't find completely ridiculous.

We’ve gone for the princess half marathon a few times, which is the weekend after Presidents’ Day. We arrive midweek and crowds are not terrible. Weather has always been lovely.

Re: Disney--Hot vs Crowded?

What’s your tolerance for heat? We once went between Christmas and New Years (picked comfort over crowds lol) and one day was comfortable, and the next were around 82, which IMO is still HOT AND crowded. I don’t deal well with heat. Anything over 70 is hot in my book so I’d rather just be hot and have less crowds. It’s not like winter is guaranteed cool in FL, or even that spring will be not boiling! Just food for thought.

I’m going mid summer.
I don’t find it hotter there vs here. We drink lots of water and kids don’t seem to notice the heat!

We have done both. We just went this past February and while it was crowded it was not insane. The weather was perfect (in the 80’s). I would do February break over August.

Did you go over President’s Day weekend? Just curious how crowded it gets.

Yep, Sunday-Thursday of that week. It certainly wasn’t wall to wall people. It was crowded at the popular areas (Pandora in Animal Kingdom specifically). But we planned our fast passes and dining well, used the Disney Parks app to manage our time, and although I was not able to get a reservation for ‘Ohana when I was able to book our dining, I got it the night before we left. I would go back during February break every time.

Re: UPDATE: Disney--Hot vs Crowded? Hot!

So we decided to go with hot bc I'm not certain I will be able to get off work in Feb but end of August is good for everyone. I've never gone on this short notice and I've never stayed at Coronado before. Any advice from anyone who has stayed at Coronado during the construction is welcome (like which buildings are the best) and does anyone know if they release more fast passes leading up to your arrival? Can't get slinky dog or Pandora.

People cancel all the time so keep checking for those fast passes! Constantly check!
