UPDATE: DS does not want to eat his solids...
He closes his lips tight shut.
He has a 5 oz bottle before the solids. I had to do the bottle first because he did not want the bottle when I was giving the solids first.
He doesn't even want to open his mouth to the fruits which he loves. He's not sick or anything. He eventually eats it but it's not easy getting him to open his mouth. I mixed the food with the fruit and he still kept his mouth shut. Then I tried giving him fruit only and he did the same thing.
Don't know what's going on.

Possibly teething? I know matteo ate less, and was doing that when he was uncomfortable w/ his two teeth coming in. He also just started doing it again, but he was sick it turns out. And I think he's teething still.

Re: DS does not want to eat his solids...
DS's first bottom tooth is already in the process of growing. I am seeing it more and more. It's possible that the other one is getting ready to come in. I don't see any thing yet.
At first I thought it was maybe due to the fact that he hadn't pooped all day yesterday. He pooped this morning and he still acted the same way with the solids.

He's fine when you stop feeding him and doesn't seem to be crying from any pain.

Re: DS does not want to eat his solids...
This happened to DS about a week and 1/2 ago and wouldn't eat solids for a good 4 days. He did have an ear infection then.

Re: DS does not want to eat his solids...
Hmmm I just don't see any signs of an infection or him being sick. That's what's confusing me. The only thing I can think of is the teething but i'm not convinced of that. When the first one broke through, it really wasn't that painful for him.

Matteo's been doing it for about 4 days, but he's been sick. Maybe his stomach is bothering him?? Maybe call your pediatrician and see if they seem concerned.

Yeah I think I may just call him tomorrow. I feel so bad cuz even though he finishes a meal he does it with tears...

Re: DS does not want to eat his solids...
maybe you are forcing him and that's not going to make him want to eat. If he's crying, he probably doesn't want it...

Re: DS does not want to eat his solids...
If he doesn't seem sick, it must be his teeth. Julia just got in 4 new teeth this week, and besides having tons of diarrhea, she didn't want to eat at all!

I know. It's just that he's been cutting down on his milk intake too and that's fine if he eats his solids. But if he is going to refuse his solids as well then that's a problem...

Re: DS does not want to eat his solids...
Babies and toddlers go through stages where some days they are hungry, some notso much. It could be a bunch of things, teething, a stomach ache even if he appears well something could be bothering him. Never force feed a baby because it can lead to eating disorders and problems with eating and food issues later on.

I was planning on introducing squash to him today. Should I continue to do as I planned?

Re: DS does not want to eat his solids...
I give my DS a bottle first too but then wait for about an hour to give him any solids. If I try to give him food right after a bottle, he does not want it. Waiting usually does the trick.

I would definitely think the bottle filled him up. Our ped said DD should not need a bottle with solids. It's either/or.

Re: DS does not want to eat his solids...
He was taking a bottle and then solids afterwards with no problems. Just now I tried giving him some fruit with no bottle yet and he did the same thing. He tight shuts his lips.

Re: DS does not want to eat his solids...
DD has been doing this for at least 2 weeks. The exact same thing.
I totally think it's teething related, especially since she's not sick, and will 95% of the time still suck down her bottle.
I finally got her to finish a whole jar of stage 1 applesauce today! Yay! 1st babyfood in weeks!
I am going to ask my PEd on friday about this, but just be patient, don't push the food, just make up the extra with formula til he comes back around.
Hopefully we are on our way for DD to gobble down her solids again.
Good Luck!

Re: DS does not want to eat his solids...
Talia never ate solids. Never had cereal - no more than a spoonful of any fruit/veggie...hated them. She went straight to finger food at around 7-8 months and she is a great eater.

Re: UPDATE: DS does not want to eat his solids...
Last night was a little better. I don't know if it was the fact that he pooped twice or that the food was a little warmer, but he was opening his mouth wide for the cereal and fruit. This morning he wasn't as eager for the cereal. He ate it but like he usually does by not opening his mouth as much. But he did for the fruit.
It was still a little better than his lips being tight shut. I have to see how the rest of the day goes and if it continues for another day i'll call the doctor.
