UPDATE: DS no sleep - think its his belly.. any advise?
Good morning ladies. Well, as I told you yesterday, Athan has been getting up every 2 hours, really uncomfortable, in the middle of the night.
I received wonderful advise from you ladies and I went home last night and I tried it. I bought the Sleep Sheep and turned it on, gave Athan more formula in his last bottle, and actually put him to sleep in his crib in the nursery. So peaceful and great... till 3 hours later. And then 1 1/2 hours after that, and 1 1/2 hours after that... and so on... till 6:00 am. Luckily, Chris let me sleep in the guest room downstairs and he took over baby duty so I could finally get some much needed sleep (I work full time so no sleep and working 10 hour the next day have been driving me to tears). I woke up this morning and ran upstairs to see the baby in his nursery and he wasn't there. Went into our bedroom and saw a disheveled Chris (which made me and think WELCOME TO MY WORLD TOUGH GUY) and a happy smiling Athan "talking" on the bed next to dad.
Chris told me that he was up every single hour and half to two hours. He thinks it's gas because he said he would pull his little knees up, turn from side, to side, and couldn't find relief. When Chris would give him bottle, he would take 2 sips and then turn to get the nipple out of his mouth and his belly would gurgle and gurgle. The next time he woke up, Chris lifted his little legs up and Athan "tooted" for a minute (I am sure dad is exaggerating here) but then he fell right off to sleep... till he woke up AGAIN!
So it sounds like gas perhaps? I do use Mylicon in every bottle, he has been on Similac Advance since he was 2 weeks old (he is now almost 5 months). Can he maybe NOT tolerate the formula anymore? After all this time? In the daytime when he gets it he is fine. IT's just this nighttime that kills us. Any suggestions? He did start on solids 3 weeks ago so I am sure that has something to do with it. He isn't constipated. Ugh
So now what? Any advise on what I can do/give him to soothe his belly? TO help with gas? ANYTHING??? I am sorry to keep bothering you all with this. I just really ant to help my baby out - so we can ALL feel better.
Thanks ladies!

Rylan was soooo gassy when he was born. DH probably wasn't exagerating when he said he "tooted" for a minute. I swear every one of Rylans lasted a minute...lol. We switched him to Similac Sensitive and made a huge difference.

I would discuss it with your ped honey, but Kristina uses either Similac Sensitive or Enfamil Gentlease.... better for the gas issues which she still has.
Have you tried giving A the drops directly instead of in his bottle? I found that giving them to K directly before her bottle worked on her tummy better, and this way she gets the full benefit of the medicine before her bottle.

My daughter had the same problem. She was up screaming every hour in pain from the gas.
She was on the Similac Advance also. I called the pediatrician and he changed it to Similac Almetinum and she is a much more content baby. Also he suggested that I try swaddling her at night. This also worked for me. She sleeps now an average 5-6 hours a night.

We had to switch to the Enfamil Gentelease because of gas issues too from the similac. The mylicon drops actually made her constipated so I just used gripe water. If you hadn't had this issue before maybe it is from the solids he is eating? Barley can make them gassy if he is eating that?

If it's not the formula, maybe it's one of the solids he's been eating.
Could it be any of the new foods you started?
does the gas/not sleeping coincide with anything new he is eating?

I hope that's it! I was talking to someone yesterday and they said to watch it with the barley with Ella because she is gassy as it is and the barley can make it worse. That's the only reason I thought of this! I will keep my fingers crossed for you!

Yeah no kidding - I will try oatmeal I think because rice constipates him. I WILL BE SO UPSET IF ALL THIS IS CAUSED BECAUSE OF THE STUPID BARLEY CEREAL THAT I GIVE HIM BEFORE BEDTIME

I am soooooooo switching!! The nurse called me back from the ped's office and said to give gripe water too to soothe the belly. I HOPE THAT CHANGING CEREAL AND ADDING GRIPE WATER WILL HELP ATHAN!!! Fingers AND toes crossed!!!!!

Good luck!! We always try to wait until Ryan gets a big poo out before we put him to bed. DH sits with him, gives him the drops and bicycles his legs - it's a regular toot time around 8PM in our house

Re: UPDATE: DS no sleep - think its his belly.. any advise?
When the nurse at the ped office heard we were trying barley cereal she said not to. She said it can make them constipated and/or gassy. Hopefully changing cereal and the gripe water will help. Our DD was the same way and we switched to Similac Sensitive when she was about three weeks old.

Yes, I squirt the Mylicon right in his mouth since I BF so I can't mix it in with my boob
