Posted by DRMom Declan could not handle regular Nutramigen and had to be put on Amino acid formula. Shame on your Dr! Regular Nutramigen is a partially hydrolized formula which means it has the milk proteins broken down but they still exist. I hope you get some answers
Thank you Melissa! I went in to the appointment knowing that there was going to be hesitation on his part about the formula. He gave the argument "Well, it's approved for children with milk-protein allergies and the casein is very broken down" and I came back with "Yeah, but it's still IN there!" He said to wait it out and see what the allergist said. Im dreading the scratch test on Tuesday - my poor guy! Where do they do it? On the arms like they do for adults? On the back? How am I supposed to keep him from scratching?
Goobster - We started him on solids around 3.5 months old. He was (and still is) drinking close to 50 ounces of formula per day. The doc was thinking that if he has the cereal, he would be more satisfied and not chugging an 8 oz bottle every 3 hours (even overnight). We did oatmeal for 3 days and he developed a rash on his face. Waited a week and tried barley - same thing. Rice, he had a reaction to the Enfamil AR formula when he was on that at just a few weeks old to curb his spitting up. I am aware that starting solids at an early age can lead to allergies later on, but I'm just following the advice of my doctor He said that veggies were ok to start, as they are usually the least allergenic.
Jess - we have an appointment next Thursday with the dermatologist.
Ugh - this parenting thing is rough!

My kids never tried to scratch...They do it on the back and you have to hold them without touching their back for 15 minutes. I don't thoink it hurts. My kids seemed happy both times they've had the test done

I see....I understand now.
See that link I posted where it has least allergenic foods and most. Peas are listed as one of the most. I was shocked to read that.
I think DrMom brought up some great points.
I truly hope the allergy test can give you some answers. Poor baby and poor mommy.
