They're ok. Nothing to write home about. I'd prefer ice cream.

Where did you live before?
I grew up in Brooklyn, all the pizza places sell them & it was a special treat as a kid.
I haven't had one in many many years though ...

They are really nothing special just great on a hot summer night. I love Ralph's and I find it more satisfying than ice cream.

Water ices I could take or leave...now Ralph's cream ices are the best! I would get one while I'm in NY this weekend, but I'm really trying to stick to my diet.

They're one of the things I associate with childhood, so they're special in that way to me. It's a nice little thing when going to a carnival, street fair, etc. when you don't want something heavier.

I've never had one and I've been here 3.5 years.
I envision them like a sno-cone - is that what it is?

Not really. Sno cones are more ice with syrup. Italian ices are somehow flavored more, a different texture..not as icy and flavored like ice cream would be. A smoother blend than a sno cone, if you will.

That's Ralph's Italian Ices. They're OK...
But head down Montauk a little further towards Oakdale. There is this shack (literally) on the side of the road, I think it's called The Ice House, it's next to a really tiny Chinese restaraunt, and it's across from West Sayville Gold Course... Now THEY sell good Italian Ices!!

I love them from the pizzeria. cherry, lemon, and rainbow. I've been dying for one lately, but for some reason haven't had one yet.

Re: 3 Years now living here and I never had a
You should really try one, but wait for a hot day.
I love lemon ices from a pizzeria & there is a bakery near me that has good ones.
I don't like the "fancy" ones from places that just sell Italian ices as much. They go to crazy with flavors & add-ins & the texture is different.
There are also the hard Itialian ices from the ice cream man (and supermarket) which are diferent but I also enjoy.

Re: 3 Years now living here and I never had a
Italian ices are different everywhere you get them...but as a kid, I used to love this shack thing in Oyster Bay that had them...lemon made from actual lemons (it even had pits) and the chocolate was out of this world...those were their only two flavors...
But they are great on a hot summer night, like PPs said...but you can take them or leave them...I would definitely try them at least once.
But the big question is...have you had a knish!!??!!
